In “Their Own” Style

by Diane on 07/10/2010

I see so many inspiring and creative ideas around the blogosphere every week that make my heart go pitter-patter.   I love to see the creativity and personal style in all my fellow bloggers’ posts and thought I would share a few of my finds with you.

It is a raining here today, but we need it badly - our lawn is all brown and looks like hay.   I love a rainy day and since we haven’t had one in a while, I am going to totally make the most out of it.  I should be cleaning the house to it get ready for our friends from Hawaii who are coming on Wednesday, but I can do that tomorrow, right?  A rainy day requires one to watch a few good movies, bake something yummy, and find some more creative inspiration by blog hopping.  Don’t you agree?   Hope your weekend is off to a good start, too.

Look what Christine from Great Oak Circle found on Etsy.  Two of my favorite things, vintage buttons and monograms.  Christine has a great eye, you can check out her find at Letter Perfect Designs

I love where Heather over at Simple Daisy used chalkboard paint in her home.  What a clever and fun conversation starter for a party or even to discover what guests wrote for the homeowner the morning after.

Jane at Finding Fabulous created this Fun Chalkboard Menu that I want to pluck out of this photo right this minute and place on my own kitchen counter.

And lastly, this video was not only visually FUN to watch, but makes you think – Are you having enough fun in your life?  I really enjoyed it.

Hey Diane,

Thanks for the lovely comment on my studio spaces. To answer your question, WOYWW stands for Whats On Your Workdesk Wednesday. It’s a silly bit of distraction each Wednesday, where a group of primarily British artists (stampers) get together and look at what is on their desks. It started out small and has really gained in popularity over the past year.

I needed a cover for my sewing machine, and, since I don’t really sew, and couldn’t follow a pattern if it made itself, a friend suggested I cut up an old pillowcase and use it to cover my sewing machine. When WOYWW turned one year old, there was a challenge to decorate something that might or might not be functional, but must go on your workspace. I thought it would be clever to stencil those letters onto a pillowcase I had just purchased and stamp on it, too, since I’m not a (rubber) stamper. It was a tongue in cheek response to the anniversary challenge, and I had so much fun making it, I simply had to keep it. I could have turned it around for the studio shot, but I spent a lot of time stamping and stenciling it, so didn’t want to cover it up.

Thanks for asking about it. It’s a fun way to spend Wednesdays, and because I post every day, it’s a fun way to not have to make art, but simply photograph my work area, which usually doesn’t look much different from the studio shot (yep, I’m a neat freak).
