…authentic, found on a northern Pacific beach, shiny, bubbly - glass fishing net float! I am so excited. I cannot tell you how much I adore these and have wanted one since seeing a home in Hawaii with them displayed all over. Large and small ones under tables, on window sills, piled in baskets - everywhere. Mine, that sounds nice doesn’t it? Mine all mine- my first one. It is about 3 1/2″ wide. I found it through the Glass Float Junkie’s blog and Etsy shop. Kamichia found this float on a trip to the Aleutian Islands. She had to go by seaplane. How cool would that be? Her story is a collector’s dream adventure and so interesting to read. She has a short video clip and post about her trip. How I wish I could go beach-combing with her.
Since my husband’s lay-off, I have had to put my decorating projects on hold. This was just something I needed – a little gift from me, to me. A little decorating detail to make me smile until I can really tweak a few rooms in my home. My new float is from Japan. Isn’t she pretty? I chose her from Kamichia’s collection because she is blue and has lots of glass bubbles. I am not sure where I am going to put her yet.
Perhaps on my sofa table.
I used a plastic ring that retail stores use to hang scarves, to keep the float from rolling off the table. The rings come in different sizes and are perfect to hold any ball shape decorative item when it is on display. Christmas ornaments, carpet balls, anything that rolls – and they are free.
I could add my float to the Pottery Barn bowl that I have filled with shells that I have collected from beaches far and wide.
Or in my blue and white bedroom.
No matter where she ends up, I know she is going to have some company soon. I want to collect lots and lots of them in all different sizes and shades of blue and purple. If you love these floats as much as I do, you are in for a real treat when you visit the Glass Float Junkie.

Hi Diane,
Thanks so much for the post about your float & for promoting my floats! I’m so glad you are enjoying it. They are such unique treasures. I love sharing them with people. So many people don’t know anything about them & the history that they carry with them. Can you imagine if they could talk & tell us about their many, many years out on the open ocean currents? Wow! That would be something!
Thanks again,
Kamichia :)
Really cute disply!
ooops that should say display…cute display :)
I lived in Hawaii as a child and remember finding the floats washed up after a good storm. Why in the world don’t I have any??!! Yours is lovely.
My friend, who lives in Hawaii has found a few while she was out paddling with her rowing club. Just last week she thought she spotted another one and steered her boat to go fetch it, but it was only a wine bottle. She kept it anyway- barnacles and all. From what I have read about them – they can still be found on beaches in the northern Pacific, especially in November. The currents carry them up there. Even if you do not have any from your childhood, it’s sounds like you have a nice memory of seeing them wash up on the beach.
Love your glass float…it’s color, it’s sheen, it’s wonderful bubbles and distortions from the glass blowing process. I have a few which are cobalt blue (also purchased) and I love their cool glow. And you deserve a little bit of bling to lift your spirits.
I love those glass floats. I just saw a room in a magazine with a bowl filled with them. I wish I could remember which magazine I saw that in. Very pretty.
Wow, Diane! Thanks so much for sharing this. I have a “huge” one of these (maybe 6 or 8 inches across? It’s dark out, so I won’t go check!) that belongs to a friend who let me hang it up in a tree in my yard. It’s in the net still. I didn’t know much about them, so was fascinated to see your post and then go to Kamichia’s site. What pretties! Thanks again for sharing.
Hi Diane, I am so glad you left a comment on my blog yesterday so that I would find yours. I was scrolling through some of your posts and you are one crafty lady. Love the no sew bench cover and the chaise covers are fantastic.
I love those glass floats like you do, but have not bought any yet. I do need to get a few to add to my nautical room or to place somewhere else so I will enjoy looking at them daily. I am going to follow you now and look forward to more inspirational ideas.

Love the touch of blue, btw, your bedroom is gorgeous!
I’ve been thinking of purchasing some of these myself. Glass float junkie has a great selection in her Etsy shop.
Love the blue color of the float. But I really love the idea of using the plastic scarf ring to hold it up. Never would have thought of that.
I’m having a new link party “Cheap Thrills Thursday” starting the 29th. It’s for creative ideas that cost under $20. I’d love for you to stop by and join in!
