As a parent of an adult child who is 28, graduated from college and lives in an apartment he is not interested in taking any of his childhood memories, toys etc. as of yet. I have his big metal tonka trucks, big fire engine, an entire bin of hot wheel cars and mountains of lego sets in the original boxes, as well his first baby shoes, handmade baby quilt made for him etc. I think you get the picture. These things I cannot part with as of yet, perhaps one day he will want them, he wants me to hold onto them and of course I will. However, storage for these items is messy and takes up one corner of my attic eave. How can one properly organize and store these items, neatly etc. So that one day I can just hand them off to him when he is ready. Perhaps he will have a son one day and want these items. Any suggestions?
Hi Catherine – I have a 25 and 22 year old and can relate :) I have the same scenario in my attic. What I did to try to keep it simple and easy for everyone is to put the stuff in a few big Rubbermaid storage tubs with their names on them. In the tubs is where I store all the stuff they had while growing up that they wanted to keep- toys, baby clothes, school stuff. They have no need for it now, but I know they may be glad to have it one day. When they do – I will go get the tubs with their names and hand the whole thing to them to do with as they want. The bins stack so they take up less room up in the attic.
