Over the past few weeks, Ed and I have been on the road traveling around the southeastern part of the country looking at lakes and lake homes. I showed you a few pics from our first trip, but we took a second one to focus on the area we liked the best to find the right house. Life has been so busy that I don’t even think I told you that we did sell our house in the first two weeks it was on the market. We are scheduled to move on December 1st if all goes according to plan.
Along our search path, we were able to visit with friends we haven’t seen in awhile. Staying with them and enjoying their company and hospitality has been one of the highlights of our lake house hunting trips so far.
When we knew Lake Murray, SC was the lake for us, friends let us stay at their vacation home there so we could get all the business stuff started that goes with buying a house. The view in the photo above was from the house we stayed in.
Do you see that line of trees where the arrow is pointing? The house we are buying is on a point lot right on the other side of the trees. The view is stellar… everything I have dreamed about.
There were a few days during our trip that we didn’t have friends or family to stay with so I searched for a stylish, yet budget-friendly hotel for a good night’s snooze/rest. I found a Sleep Inn in Columbia, SC which is near Lake Murray.
When our daughters were in college we stayed in a budget-friendly hotel every time we visited them. Each of their college towns had a hotel in the Choice Hotels brand that we chose on most visits.
Early on we signed up for a Choice Privileges® rewards card/program to take advantage of our frequent stays so that we could get a free night every once in a while as well as a few other nice perks when we visited them.
When I realized how many nights we would need to stay in a hotel on our house hunting trip, I knew it was time to dust off our Choice Privileges card.
I was quite happy with the price – under $100 a night so I booked it as our base of operations for a few days. Sleep Inn® offers free hot breakfast and WI-FI, which made the decision to stay there easy. I booked a two night stay.
We are now back home, but I have more to show and tell you about our trip and the house we bought.
The next few weeks are going to be crazy busy for me since we are DIYing the move. Ed and I are packing up the house ourselves to save money. We are doing a little bit each day. By the time moving day comes… we will be ready.
We are very excited, but I have to contain my excitement until we settle on our current house and then the new one. When that time comes it will be right before Christmas. Getting to live on a house on the water will be the best Christmas present I could ever ask for.
