Last week I took a break from my daily routine, DIY projects and more to go on vacation, not only with Ed, but as well as both our daughters and their significant others.
Before I tell you all about it, I wanted to first thank you for all the comments you left on my Color Lovers post last week where I revealed the before and after of my guest room and bathroom. I still have not had a chance to respond to all of you and answer your questions, but know that I have read each and every comment and thank you for reading my blog. I really do enjoy connecting with you. It is the best part of blogging.
So where was I? We spent the week on the Riviera Maya in Mexico.
This is where I spent most of the days, relaxing on a Bali style beach bed watching the surf, reading, and snoozing.
It was perfect… the weather and everything about the resort. I have written about traveling to this area in Mexico before in this post, My Trip to the Riviera Maya.
For this trip we decided to stay at another one of the El Dorado resorts. Just like the other two we have stayed at, this resort, El Dorado Seaside Suites did not disappoint. It was beyond just a hotel on the beach. It was a resort where I didn’t have to do anything except relax and be pampered. I also celebrated my 58th birthday and did enjoy a few extras like a massage and facial at the resort’s spa.
We stayed in the new building where every floor has a lazy river on the ocean side. Each room has a porch with an outdoor bed and chairs and access to the lazy river along with a fabulous view from sunrise to sunset.
After spending the day on the beach it was refreshing to hang out in the river for a bit before getting ready to head out for dinner.
The resort is not just an all-inclusive resort, but “Gourmet All-Inclusive”. The food was way above par. This picture was taken when we ate out on a pier over looking the ocean for steak and lobster. My sleeveless top is from Kaari Blue.
There is a dinner dress code at all the dining places in the resort. Collared shirts for men and no flip flops
We ate a different restaurant every night and each of us, Ed and myself, plus our daughters even had a romantic dinner for two on the beach one night. This is my youngest and her boyfriend.
…and my oldest daughter and her fiancee.
During the day when we were not eating, we hung out in the beach beds that line the shore.
They are the best as they keep you out of the sun, but you get to still enjoy the beach, the water and the green palms swaying in the breeze. It was delightful!
The resorts beach butlers and waitresses make sure you have everything you need from sunscreen to drinks. Our new favorite drink is called an “Iceberg”. A mix of Dos Equis with a frozen margarita. They were refreshing! Sorry I don’t have a photo of one, but new ones, bottles of water or any drink you wanted were constantly placed on the beach bed tray all day long.
We went snorkeling along the coral reef and saw lots of colorful fish…
…and took long walks along the beach.
The second largest coral reef in the world runs along this part of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and goes all the way down to Belize. Some of the beaches are all coral, but the resort has areas that are coral-free so you can swim and enjoy the waves.
When in the tropics, pop-up storms in the summer that last 10 minutes are common. We watched two of these roll in, both around noon.
It was fascinating to watch from the beach as the ominous dark clouds rolled in and the rain came for about 10 minutes and then moved on letting the sun come out again for the rest of the day. I took this panorama photo with my phone.
I took this photo a day after when I took a long walk along the beach all the way out to the end of a point along the beach and past other resorts. I didn’t think I would make it back, but I did as it never rained along the beach only out on the ocean.
We had a fabulous week not only getting to be at the beautiful resort, but spending time with our daughters. As most vacations go, it went by way too fast.
We are now back home and spent July 4th out on the lake with friends.
Today, I am back at work and DIYing. My first project to take on this week is to makeover the front door of the house with paint. So it’s back into my paint clothes for me. :-) You can see the before over on Instagram.
I will keep you posted on the progress as well as a few other projects that I have decided to do this summer.
