Custom Watercolor House Portrait

I have double goodness for you today. Something very special that a very talented artist made for me along with something extra … a little something to give away to one of you.

You know I recently moved and have a new-to-me house on a lake.  Look what arrived in my mailbox last week.

Watercolor house illustration

A custom watercolor portrait of my house. Isn’t it adorable? The artist who drew and sent it to me is Michelle Schneider.

The Art and Watercolor Illustrations of Michelle

She is the painter and creator behind The Art of Michelle. where she paints illustrations of life in the form of custom house, family, and pet portraits.

Custom Watercolor portraits

Her body of work is designed to capture the sweetest moments of your life in a fun and colorful way, to preserve memories, to make your gift-giving unforgettable, and bring beauty to your everyday life.

Lake House Custom Watercolor House portrait by The Art of Michelle

I adore the portrait she did for me… the vivid colors, the artistic style… the detail…. everything about it.  We have many birds, ducks, loons, and even herons hanging out so their images are true to real life in our yard. :-)

lake house

Michelle used a photo of my house that she found on my blog to create the watercolor portrait.

Customized watercolor notecards

She also sent me a note card and envelope with the image on it. I am not sure I will be able to send it to anyone, as I don’t want to part with it.

Art ideas for walls

For the time being, I placed the portrait in a floating frame and hung it in the family room. I am going to be painting the green walls in the room after we finish opening the room into the kitchen. I like when you use a floating frame that the wall color becomes the picture frames mat since the art is sandwiched between two panes of glass.

GIVEAWAY IS OVER

Congratulations to: Tara Smith

Do you have a gift for your Mom yet? Mother’s Day will be here soon. Need a unique gift for a new homeowner?  A custom illustration would also make a pretty awesome gift for anyone who loves their house, family and pet.

My family recently moved from the house we had lived in for 18 years. When we moved in, a family friend took a picture of us all in front of it (including our 8 week old puppy – Daisy). Since then, Daisy and our other precious pup, Millie, have gone on to dog heaven, and leaving that house felt like losing them all over again. I would love a portrait of not only my childhood home, but my two sweet dogs perched in front of it, watching over me forever.

What a great giveaway! Thanks to you and Michelle for giving her lovely art away! If I were to win I would choose a watercolor of our family’s vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I once tried to do my ownwater color of the house carefully following from a photo I took. I am somewhat creative and I have always been a good copier, but this was above my talent level and it turned out to be a bomb! Then when that Waterlogue app come out I did create one that came out okay, but an original like those by Michelle would be the best!

I am widowed and live alone. Recently, I needed a major surgery that required transport to and from a hospital an hour away from my house. Two dear friends helped me through this time. One drove me to and from the hospital, stayed there til I was out of recovery, picked up prescriptions and ran any errands that needed doing. The other, on the day i left the hospital, put me in her guest room with every need fulfilled and she deserves a nurse’s cap for her devotion and care. I lacked for nothing during the whole experience, thanks to these two wonderful women. And they stand by to help, should I need anything now that I’m home. One of these women is a painter, the other a folk artist.

They adore their dogs and I would like to thank them with a portrait of their dogs together. A gift that neither of them has created.

Lovely paintings! I’d choose the house, because we worked our butts off to get this place, and in the spring when all the azaleas, rhododendrons, and flowers are blooming, it’s just amazing. Most of the landscaping was done by the previous owner. We first saw the house in late fall and moved in in the middle of the winter, so the first spring was like getting a present every day … still feel that way!

I have always wanted a portrait painted of our family. I don’t think we truly realize how special the “everyday” is until it is no longer there. You see, the last photo I have of our family is from Christmas 2012 and it was a typical scramble to get 3 teen-agers in the same room (and smiling…) Less than two weeks later, our middle boy, Michael, who had been fighting childhood leukemia for almost six years, would relapse again and begin the battle for his last year here on Earth. I would love Michelle’s rendition of that last-minute, slightly- out of focus happy memory. Thank you so much for the opportunity, Diane. It means a lot.

Hi Diane, I would love a portrait of our new-to-us house that I’m trying to make into a comfortable home. Our family of five lived for 10 years in a smaller house that we just out grew. Once the market came back, we were able to sell and buy our new home in a lovely neighborhood with charming old trees and friendly neighbors. Uprooting 3 children, ages 13, 11, 9 from their childhood home was not easy since they loved their neighborhood friends. However, despite the changes, which life is full of, we love our new home and the extra space we have. Feeling blessed.

    Hello Diane,
What a fun opportunity to bring happiness to someone through art! I love the charm of Michelle’s house paintings, the joy of the family portraits and the playfulness of the pet poses — I especially like the portrait of who I predict is “Sarge” on her studio wall! Personally, I would have a difficult time chosing just one of her specialties – but I think my son would want a portrait with his loving cat, Comet. This Tonkinese behemoth (22 lbs) is the one creature who can calm and “center” my teenager who is otherwise struggling to deal with overwhelming sensory input from the simple things in this world that many of us take for granted. Living on the Autism Spectrum has many challenges, but his cat is his comfort – and it would be wonderful to be able to provide a lasting memory of this loving relationship. There are many deserving “In My Own Style” followers – thank you for the chance to share Michelle’s talents.

If I was the very lucky winner, I would choose a watercolor for my Son and his family.
They had lived in a very small home for about 22yrs. They raised their three children in their first house and it was crowded. My Son and Daughter-in law both have worked so hard to be able to move the family to a larger more spacious home. They saved, did without things, really watched their spending and finally got in their careers where they could afford the house of their dreams. They moved in this past Christmas time and they are so happy and so excited, they have waited so long.
I would love to give them a watercolor of their new home. Thank you.

My daughter and her family moved from California, where her friends and family have always been, to Michigan. It has been a tough adjustment for all of us. We miss her little ones terribly and she misses her support system. I would love to have a watercolor done of their first house to remind them of their life in California. I know Michigan is welcoming them with open arms, and that her family will be happy there as long as they are together.
Hope to win the portrait ?
