Working on my kitchen hasn’t left me with much time to do other projects to share with you this week. When the sun goes down, I put down my paint brush and try to catch up on getting readers questions answered and tackle my overflowing inbox. I often wish I could chat with you in real life, but since I can’t, how about I share some of the things I have been talking about with the people I do see every day.
Here are a few things that I enjoyed reading and finding this week and will be going to this weekend
- When I am working on projects, I have to remember this. Such a good reminder for a list making person like myself.
2. I am loving following the progress of what Ashley and Jamin are doing to an older home they recently bought to make it their own. They gutted this room and are making it into a great room. I know you will enjoy following their progress, too. Even in it’s unfinished state…this room is dreamy!
3. A few weeks ago I wrote about how I can never have enough throw blankets around my house. Now that the temps have dipped, I still like to keep the windows and doors open in the house so I can feel the breeze from the lake. When I take my laptop to the sofa to work, I find that I am reaching for them to snuggle up with.
Recently I have been reading a lot about the trend in jumbo and chunky knitted throws. Have you seen these from Kozy Kat Designs? I am not a knitter, but both my mom and mother-in-law were. They were passionate knitters and made everything from hats to blankets to coats. They are no longer living, but I know they would be fascinated by these and the process to make them. The texture would look add the perfect fall touch to a room and feel luxurious.
4. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I had a large wonderful library nearby that I went to on a monthly basis. It had aisles of old decorating and craft books that I would check out to inspire me to come up with new ideas. There is not one here in South Carolina which makes me kind of sad. Bookstores are getting harder to find too. When I saw this, it made me smile.
5. I am going to take tomorrow off from painting the kitchen cabinets and head up to Charlotte, NC to attend, The Nest Fest. If you read Myquillyn…aka The Nester‘s blog, then you may have read about it. There will be 50 vendors of furniture, home goods, jewelry, art and more! Plus music and food and hanging out on Myquillyn’s 12 acre property outside Charlotte.
It is forecasted to be a gorgeous day, perfect fall sweater weather. I am looking forward to a day spent outdoors, shopping, eating and just getting away from all my projects. I will share photos on Instagram.
Well, that’s it for now, but I will be back next week to update you on my kitchen progress along with another smaller project that I have been working on when I put my paint brush down.
I hope you have a wonderfully perfect fall weekend. Enjoy!

Glad you enjoyed the fest. I too love those huge yarn throws. If you or anyone finds where to buy that fat yarn, with not costing so much, please let me know?

My mother was a teacher and EVERY Saturday she would take us to the library with the stipulation that we could ONLY check out 5 books – there were six of us kids! I should get a job at the library based on how often I am there : )
And, I too love afghans – best gift a friend ever gave me was the gift of teaching me how to knit. I love it when friends and family ask me for a hand knit item – best compliment ever : )
I am so inspired by all of your home updates!

I so relate to your library comment – when I moved to my current town, I found out that my family had sworn themselves to secrecy regarding the sad state of the libraries here! They told me after I had moved that they were afraid I wouldn’t do it, if I had known. I moved from a small town that had a really superior library system! Now I do statewide library searches and have ok luck.
2nd comment – argh, I read this today, too late to join the fun last Saturday! Must put a note on my calendar.
:)

If the library near you doesn’t pan out, check your thrift stores. I always see a ton of decorating/craft books there. They won’t set you back too much. For those books I’m wanting to keep, I’ve been checking the used options on Amazon. I’ve been able to get new and nearly new books for $5 or less (including shipping).

Diane , we have a wonderful library very close to you. If you’ve been down Old Bush River and turned left at St Andrews , it’s on the left hand side of the road right before the Doctors Care. It might not be as big as what you’re used to but the staff is wonderful and could find anything you need. It is one of my weekly stops as I am one of those who likes the feel of a book in my hand. It’s the Lexington County Public Library if you want to look it up. I’ve been a follower for a while and love your “style” .

Hi Beth – I was just on St Andrews Road earlier this week. This is so good to know. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me. I am going to make a date to go next week. :-) Are you loving the change in the weather? It feels wonderful!

Have a great time. You wear me out just reading what you’re up to.
Too bad Allison(jamin) isn’t excited about her new kitchen, huh? It’s is already fabulous.
Diane Henkler says
Thanks Karen – I am really looking forward to it and so happy that the weather is going to be beautiful. I think Ashley is very excited about her kitchen, she just wants to be done so they can move in and get out of living in limbo. :-)

Jealous! I want to go to NEST FEST! Too far away!
Have a great time – all of you!

Hi Elaine – Thanks – I will take pictures to share on the blog next week.

I’m heading over to Nest Fest tomorrow as well with three of my friends. Like you, Diane, I’m looking forward to a “free” day with no projects! Hope to see you there – drive safely!

NO LIBRARY, she shouted. Seriously I have to have a library close. I’m lucky my county has a great system. All of these we’re good to read. Lucky you to get to go to Nester’s.
Diane Henkler says
Hi Carla – A reader that lives near me just left a comment to tell me where a library is. Such good news! I can’t wait to go and find a few good books and inspiration! I will take photos while I am at Nest Fest to post next week.
