Before and After Small Bathroom Makeover Using a Blue and White Color Scheme
Today is a day I have been waiting eagerly to post about. It has been in the making for the past few months. I have teamed up with 9 other color loving home decor bloggers to bring you…
With neutral decor so popular in decorating right now, we wanted to show that we really, really like using color to decorate our homes and inspire you to do the same.
Today you can see the room each Color Loving blogger is planning to make over in their color loving style. On June 27th, we will all reveal the AFTER of our rooms. Links to all the blogs taken part in the series is at the end of this post.
I have two bedrooms and a bath on the second floor of my house. We use both of these for guests. I am going to makeover one of these rooms and the bathroom that I call the “guest suite”. I am decorating one of the bedrooms to be more masculine using a navy and green color scheme. I have shown you the start of this room in this post: How to Make a Simple Headboard. The other room, I plan on using more feminine colors that will include pink and orange.
The Bathroom: BEFORE
Here is how the upstairs bathroom looked when we first moved into the house.
Everything on one side of the room is gone, I removed the popcorn ceiling and painted the room. I was hoping to keep the tile floor, but it did not continue under the vanity and was too beige for my planned color scheme, so Ed put in new flooring that I will reveal in a few weeks.
Guest Room #1: BEFORE
Here is how the bedroom looked when we first moved in. We placed our existing furniture in the room and I had fun adding some holiday color to the room back in December, but I really have not done anything to the room to add my own style.
Inspiration For The Room Makeovers
Most of the decor for the Color Lover’s room makeovers can be found at The Mine, formerly ATGstores, Birch Lane, Minted and a few others home decor stores. I enjoyed exploring what these sites offered. Each blogger will list their resources in our final reveal posts, which will be plentiful since we all have our own unique way we like to decorate our homes using color.
Minted has amazing art. You can find any style you want and I like that you get to learn a little bit about the artist’s that create each piece. Birch Lane is an affordable shopping destination with classic designs that stand the test of time. And The Mine has thousands of stylish furniture and home decor items – you can find anything you could possibly want on their site. So, if you’re interested in finding some new furnishings for your home, these are good places to start your search.
For the bathroom, I found my inspiration in this room photo that is to the right in the collage above. To camouflage the imperfections for the walls in the bathroom, I thought I would use an all-over pattern. I really like this wallpaper print, but not the price. It is called Aquarella from York Wallcoverings. I am not going to use it, but did find a way to create something similar for a whole lot less.
For the guest room, I want to use lots of bright pops of color all over the room using pieces mostly from Birch Lane. These are some of the items I am considering using.
So there is a little sneak peek of what is to come. Stay tuned for the colorful final room reveals.

When decorating, it can be all too easy to fall into a rut with color. This shows that with some simple tweaks, it is possible to effortlessly give a room such as a guest room an update. Splashes of color can really make a room feel inviting!

Thank you for showing us affordable solutions to expensive items. While I love websites like Houzz for inspiration, a lot of the time those rooms are done with the expensive stuff that’s I could never afford to buy. So, having you translate an expensive item to a non-expensive alternative is super helpful!
