YES – I do have a Fairy Godmother – she is real and her name is Rachel. She unknowingly has granted me 3 wishes that I have been hoping would come true for me ever since starting my blog. She has been waving her magic wand and has made them come true. I feel a bit like Cinderella – I didn’t quite lose a glass slipper for a prince to find, but I put what I know out on the web for all to see, read, enjoy, learn, and scrutinize.
It was hard at first – this blogging thing, figuring out what to write about and keeping it up on an ongoing basis, but I kept these words nearby to remind me that even though a good idea might be the hardest thing to give away – what good is it if it can’t be shared.
Writing a blog for me is not only worthwhile in sharing what I know and connecting with all of you, but now I can add that I have been granted more than one opportunity to make money doing what I love. It would have never happened if I hadn’t put myself out there and shared my best with you. I am so glad I did as that is how my Fairy Godmother found me – she liked my blog and emailed me to see if I would be interested in writing for Momtastic and getting paid to do it.
Wish #1 granted: Getting paid to write about DIY.
Then she emailed a few months later and wanted to know if I would be interested in being part of the ad network Momtastic is affiliated with – she hooked me up with the right people and now I make money every month from their ads on my blog.
Wish # 2 granted: Making $$$ from my blog every month.
And just recently she granted me the opportunity to be a free-lance style writer to write about decorating for a global company that is a household name to most of us.
Wish #3: Writing About Decorating for a Well-Known Retailer
Wish #3 has kept me a little busy this past week – here is a little sneak peek. If you can guess what these photos have in common then you know who I have been writing for.
They are also famous for their meatballs!
I have been blogging now for close to two years – full time since January. I think most of us DIY tutorial writing bloggers are teachers in a way and share what we know with the world on our blogs. We love doing it and are quite a passionate bunch, but it is nice to be able to make some money doing it. My advice to anyone wanting to make money writing, creating, and coming up with great ideas is to put yourself out there – give and share everything you know in the best way you know how– it isn’t doing you any good just keeping it to yourself.
New ideas that make our lives easier, better, and more interesting are what we all seek – you may have the best way to fold sheets that will help every laundry folding soul out there – spill it! Show the world your trick. You may be telling yourself that you have done it all your life – everyone must know how to do it. I can tell you – they don’t ! You need to share and show them how and they will love you in return for helping them make their life better or more beautiful. It all starts with just a small thought or idea and blossoms from there.
Let yourself be known, give your best, and then magical things can happen – like finding out you, too, have a Fairy Godmother who is reading all of your posts or your work and will start granting you your wishes.
I wish I could hug my Fairy Godmother, but I have never met her – she lives clear across the country in Los Angeles. I feel blessed and lucky to have Rachel – my fairy Godmother for my online life. Thank you Rachel for granting me 3 of my wishes. You are the best. XO
