Instant Dec in a Sec to Brighten Your Day

January 29, 2011 · By Diane Henkler · 25 Comments

This scene is starting to get to me – and it is not going to go away any time soon as there is a whole lot more forecasted to come again early next week.

Now, mind you, I love to decorate with white, but would rather see my flower boxes filled with glorious color instead of mountains of the white stuff.

To think of warm and sunny weather and to brighten my housebound existence, I went to my basement to shop for some pops of color in the way of flowers – FAKE ones.  I would prefer they be real, but just seeing the pops of color they provide here in my kitchen along with a colorful new dishtowel makes me happy.

A little color therapy here and there for a Winter weekend.

FAKE apples too.  Makes me want to go get some real ones so I can make my favorite – Ina Garten’s Apple Crisp for dessert tonight.  Hmmm, I think I am on to something – with a mountain of white whipped cream. Yum-O!

My day has instantly become brighter.  How is your day going?

It’s my first visit, but I’m loving your blog! You have wonderful decorating ideas. I too am getting ready to cover some bookcases with an old book of quotes! (Saw it in your sidebar) Now I know it was the right choice. I love your cute kitchen and the new towel!

Thanks Erin for your sweet comment. We are going to get snow and freezing rain later today. Talk about yuck!!! It is dark and cloudy outside, so the apples and flowers are making it look Spring in my house. Now I just want the calendar to confirm that.

You’re right, the white is beautiful, but enough snow already! “Green apple” green is my favorite color, so I love how you’ve used it as an accent. Spring will come again! I enjoy visiting your blog. Well done. :)

Well, I don’t want to brag or anything, but it was 70 here today and I worked in the yard. So much more to do though and it will be cold again soon I’m sure. Love your pops of color.

I love how you shopped the basement! Your home looks so cheery now :)

My day is great — it’s drizzly and gray, but it didn’t prevent the Chinese New Year’s parade from passing under my window. The pops of color from the dragons and the (tourist’s) umbrellas made the scene really festive.

Oh, you do have quite a bit of snow! It is beautiful but I’m sure it’s cold and a bit hard getting around in it.
Now your pops of color are just so pretty! Your kitchen is gorgeous and I love your new dish towel and your pretty fauxs. I love faux flowers!
    Be a sweetie,

No white stuff here in California but my town has been gray with fog for weeks! I love it though, I much prefer it over the 100+ summertime heat :-) I love the stenciling on your floor! Clever.

Mine’s brighter now, too, after seeing your kitchen hydrangeas, Diane! I have an arrangement in the basement that needs making over. Maybe I’ll just steal some of the hydrangeas for the time being and make something that will tide me over through all our whiteness. We are getting more this coming week, too, so I feel your pain!
