Helloooo Friday...
one week of March down. You know what that means, don’t you? Only 13 more days till Spring!
I am sure you are as tired of winter as I am. There is still snow on the ground here and too cold to do much outside. I am craving warm sunshine and ready to break out of winter mode right NOW! The doldrums are running deep and have taken my energy right down along with them. I had to get out of the house to get recharged and decided to go to a few of my favorite shops – the thrift store, JoAnn Fabrics, Target, and HomeGoods.
From the long lines at each store, I think many others are feeling the need to get out & about as much as I am.
It was nice to see spring color in the aisles and shelves. Lots of pretty stuff to look at.
I did come home with a few things.
I could not pass up the polka dot vinyl with my 40% off coupon. I bought all that was left on the bolt, which was only a yard. You will be seeing what I do with it in the powder room next week. Stripes go perfectly with polka dots in my mind :-)
I walked out of HomeGoods, HomeGoods happy after finding the dipped basket on clearance. I think I will be using it as the powder room trash can. The napkins were a deal. I plan to use them for my Easter table setting.
Can you guess where the turquoise hand towels will be going? The powder room. I want to bring the color in to coordinate with the vintage industrial light I spray painted turquoise.
I have no idea what I will do with the chartreuse and white striped wrapping paper, but it is in my color scheme and I know someday soon an idea will pop into my head and I will be glad I have it on hand.
And speaking of ideas… here are two that I found this week.
Are you the creative type? I know I am…you will love this… It resonated with me in a big way. I want to go back in time with it in my hands and wave it in front of all my school teachers that said in a negative way… that I was a daydreamer.
One reason I did not get further on the powder room this week is that my brother came in from Denver and stayed with us. I could have used this free printable to make life easier for him while he was visiting – truly a sign of the times.
If you saw my Wednesday post, then you know that today is the day I could use your help.
My vintage wood file cabinet and shelf are up for voting today Friday March 7 for one day only.
Voting starts at : 9AM CST Friday to 9AM on Sat over at Better Homes and Gardens.
They are holding a challenge in the spirit of March Madness, but instead of college basketball – it is all about makeovers. If you would like to vote, XO times 10!

Gosh I miss way too much it seems.
I love the little goodies you brought home…. just gorgeous and oh yes with the basket and the little pitcher… it could be the big ones offspring. So cute. I adore white stoneware and the more expensive stuff too.
And I can’t wait to see the final reveal of your new bathroom. Or have I missed that also?
I just wish my kitty kats had not broken so much of my milk/hobnail vases and other stuff…… boo hoo.

I LOVE that basket Diane! I hope Spring comes for you soon. I live in Orange County, CA and it’s like summer here…gorgeous but the cost of living here is SKY high and traffic is a nightmare…the pace of life here is hectic. You take the good with the bad I guess.

Hi Denise –
I think every place has good and bad, but when you are living in bad (cold snowy weather) sunny California sure does look good :-)

Love all the treasures you found! I also appreciated the linked article. It was a third grade teacher who tried to shame me for being a daydreamer. It took me a long time to realize it was a good thing.

Hi Julie –
I was in the same boat as you. I can remember my elementary school report cards that stated. If only Diane didn’t daydream….. I am glad my mom and dad could see that my mind just worked in a different way and they nurtured it, but it was hard being labeled in school.

I wish I could go shopping with you Diane. My creative eye needs glasses sometimes. I’m afraid I don’t share your talent in that area. I have been checking out all the wrapping paper at TJ Maxx & Marshalls in hopes of finding the right one to mount on foam core and jazz up the back of my book cases in the den, like you did to the back of the shelves in your kitchen. I have corner bookcases in dark stained pine, ala late 1980’s décor, and the same stained pine below the (dark stained) chair rail around the entire room. Needless to say the room is DARK. I’ll find the right paper to lighten up those bookcases soon ~ I hope. I’ve voted for you several times today on the BHG site…fingers crossed that you win. Vikki in VA.

Hi Vikki –
I come home more often empty handed, than I do with finding good stuff to use to decorate with. I think the key to finding items that you like and will work, is to go to the store(s) often and do a quick look around. Now that it is Spring, I think a whole new batch of gift wrap will start showing up. Just keep your eye out every where you go, even the Supermarket. You never know where something good will show up.
Thanks so much for voting for my project. I won the first round in the challenge. XO If you have the time this Thursday March 13, my project goes up for second round voting. I would love to get your vote again. XO

Your blog is really informative and inspirational! The BHG site lets you vote every hour, so if I’m near the computer I vote (on #3). I hope you win!
Diane Henkler says
Thanks Irene – I truly appreciate your time, effort, and vote for my project. XO. My sister said she was using every device she had to vote every hour. It made me smile big time.

Voted! I always loved how you remade that piece.
