Preparing For the Holidays

Are you preparing for the holidays yet?  One week until we are officially “in the holiday season”.  So much to do, so little time, right?  I have lots of plans and am excited to share them all with you over the next few weeks.

This past week I have not completed any of them yet since I have been spending a lot of time at the hospice with my dad.   He sleeps most of the time, and while he does, I have been trying to clean up the files on my laptop. I have been editing and purging like crazy and wondering why, I saved so many things.

When I get bored of the task, I have been doing a little online shopping and surfing around – something I rarely get time to do.

Here are a few things that made an impression on me this week:

I heart Kohl’s for this ad.

I will be making this to serve along with the turkey and stuffing this year.

When my daughters were little I declared November 18 the day no one could roll their eyes at me if I was listening to my favorite holiday music.

________

Since the holidays are almost upon us, I wanted to point you to where you can find all of the Christmas projects I have posted about over the past 4 years.  If you are looking for some festive and colorful holiday inspiration, I have grouped the posts all together in my Holiday Project Gallery.

Holiday-Project-Gallery

A few of the projects and ideas you will find there:

This photo is from my Christmas house tour post last year.

I used lots of turquoise, pink, and white last year.

What colors do you like to use when you decorate for the holidays?

I know how hard it is to see your dad in a hospital bed. I will be praying him, you and the family.

I am sorry you are going through this difficult time…but I wanted to thank you for the link to the Kohl’s ad. The true meaning of Christmas showing through a department store ad! I shared it on Facebook. I am hoping someone will be inspired! I’ve never gone that far (decorating someone’s house)but our family has blessed others through the years with very special baskets of food, treats and gifts for Christmas….maybe I should step it up a notch this year?!

Sorry yu and family are experiencing what we all must go thru at this time of year. My dad died very suddenly…he was the glue in our family and since his passing 22 yrs ago, holidays have never been the same. There is a definite void when we are all together. We are just thankful there will be a glorious reunion someday!

Not getting ready for Christmas yet – one holiday at a time – but when I do so this year, I’ll be incorporating a lot of gold decor.

I felt the need to comment on this post…and it gladdens my heart to see that most of the other comments here are also about your dad. It’s a difficult thing any time, but harder, I think, at the holidays. I’m glad you found things to keep busy and your post is wonderful, as always. know that folks are praying for your dad, and you and your family. Please take good care!

My thoughts are with you, your dad and your family. We just traveled a similar path in March with my wonderful father-in-law. Because my husband’s funny family was together, it made a difficult time a loving memory. May your dad know he is surrounded with love.

What an amazing ad from Kohl’s! Makes me think of our two moms who will need help this season—one 94, and 0ne 87. Thinking of you this week (and praying) as you sit with your dad. Been there, done that. Thank you for your amazing post as you spent time watching over him.

You can buy the chalkboard fabric at Nancysnotions.com. It is awesome stuff. trim to size…no seam finishing. There is a little fabric prep before use. We used as banners for Easter. Can be reused repeatedly. Think outside the box….the tabletop of a children’s play table….

I’m sorry to hear about your dad. I’m sure he is comforted knowing you are there. I love that Kohl’s ad too…it touches that soft spot in our hearts. Thanks for the Christmas ideas…I’m always looking for a little something different. ;)

It is a lonesome watch to sit with your Dad. I have been in your shoes and it takes a heavy toll. I am glad you have something to occupy your time and keep you busy. That Kohl’s ad is wonderful. I have not seen it before. Love your polka dot dress choice, too. The kale salad- not so much for me- lol

Hope you have a good weekend- sending up prayers for your Dad AND you! xo Diana
