Tomorrow is November 1st! Do you know what that means besides being the first day of the month?
It means it is 3 weeks until Thanksgiving and about eight weeks to Christmas!!! This year I plan to be ready on all fronts…
…Decorating, baking, and gift shopping.
No running to the mall for gifts in mid-December or worse yet, last minute. Instead I plan to be able to sit back in one of my new comfy recliners and gaze at the Christmas tree all December long, while watching classic Christmas movies and maybe even munching on a few just out of the oven Christmas cookies.
Total holiday bliss… but for this scenario to happen, I have to get in holiday gear… NOW!
If you have been reading my blog for awhile then you know I love the holidays and being able to make and give gifts to my friends and family, but I also like to add my own style to the items I buy before giving them.
Last month I did just that… I got started on my holiday shopping when I was introduced to Thirty-One Gifts.
I found three items that I loved from their catalog and online site that I added my own style to. Two are to give as hostess gifts for two parties that Ed and I are going to in early December and the third one I had Thirty One Gifts personalize just for me. You know one of those gifts that I fondly call… A gift from me to me. ;-)
I like to give gifts that can keep on giving, like a plant. When I saw this Mini Storage Bin in the fabric, Moosin’ Around I smiled and knew it would make a perfect cover to hide the ugly plastic pot a Christmas plant comes in or a pot of Rosemary that has the pyramidal shape of a Christmas tree. The scent of rosemary and pine in a room smells divine and once the holidays are over the plant can be planted in a garden for the recipient to use to season their cooking and recipes all year long.
The vinylized fabric bin can also be used for catch-all storage for every room in the house or you could fill it with gifts and treats for a unique gift basket. The cute fabric is available on many other items Thirty-One Gifts sells, such as travel bags, totes, duffles, and more.
The bin is adorable just as it is, but I wanted to add my own style so I added a few jingle bells to the rim so that when I bring it to the party as a hostess gift, the sounds of Christmas will accompany it.
How to Add Jingle Bells to the Rim of a Holiday Storage Bin
- 16 red jingle bells from the craft or dollar store
- Black pipe cleaners… a.k.a… chenille stems
- Wire cutters
- Measuring tape
1. Cut the black pipe cleaners into 16 – 2-inch sections with wire cutters.
2. To evenly space jingle bells around the rim, use chalk to make a mark every 2 inches on rim.
3. Directly under a chalk mark, carefully push the tip of an awl through the vinyl fabric. Since it vinyl, the fabric will not tear or un-ravel.
4. Push a cut pipe cleaner through the hole.
5. Slide a jingle bell over the pipe cleaner and then twist ends to secure. Trim ends if needed with wire cutters.
I then made sure that all the twists were on the inside of the bin and not on the top of the rim.
Place plant in. Since the storage bin has handles, carrying it to the party will be easy. You can even tie a red ribbon bow on top fo the rosemary.
I love the Moosin’ Around pattern so much I wanted some for myself and bought this adorable keepsake tray to place on my coffee table. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I know it will become a favorite holiday decoration.
How to Give The Gift of Wine In Style
Next on my gift-giving list is wine. Do you like to take a bottle of wine as a hostess gift when you are attending a holiday party?
Thirty One Gifts lets you give two with this Twice As Nice Tote while having the option of personalizing it with a monogram, holiday design, or many other designs.
Inside the tote has an attached fabric bottle holder on one side. On the other side you can place a second bottle of wine or a gift…
… twice is nice, right?
I attached the gift tag and jingle bell with a cut piece from a garland tie that you can buy at the craft store.
How to Add Glitter to the Edges of Tissue Paper
Since I had the tote personalized with the snowflake and initial monogram. I wanted to see a little snowy sparkle on the tissue paper. I added it to the edges of the paper using a glue stick and glitter.
It is easy to do: Open up the tissue paper and lay the edge on a large piece of paper or tray. I used printer paper. Run the glue stick along the edge of the tissue paper and then sprinkle glitter over it. (Make sure the glue stick is new. Old ones will be too dry and may end up ripping the paper.) Shake off excess onto printer paper or tray. Fold printer paper in half to easily pour excess glitter back into the bottle so you can re-use it. Repeat on opposite edges. I did two sides and both front and back of the paper on these two sides.
Just a little detail that makes giving the gift of wine a little more special.
And last, but not least, the gift I gave to myself…
I didn’t do anything extra to the Close To Home Tray since I had it customized just for Ed and I by Thirty-One Gifts.
We put it to use over the weekend when we made Smores on Saturday night. The weather was finally fall-like enough to be able to enjoy a fire in our firepit that overlooks the lake.
The Smores were delicious and so was the way I presented them to everyone.
Have you started your holiday shopping yet? If not, stay tuned for my post this Friday November 3rd when I will be holding a giveaway for one lucky reader to win all 3 of these times from Thirty-One Gifts.
