Happy Monday everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend.
I took time off last week to enjoy a visit from my youngest and her boyfriend. We fit in everything we planned to do and made sure we had plenty of downtime to sit back and relax. My sister gave me the for Christmas.
On Friday when I took this picture with my phone, the 85 degree weather and action on the lake made it feel like June. It was the perfect day. It did rain all day on Sunday and it still is, plus the temp today is back to an average April temp of 65.
My daughter and her boyfriend left yesterday :-( and now I am back into my DIY zone… and so is Ed. AKA my very own Chip Gaines. Do you remember when we made over the powder room off the kitchen last summer? Ed surprised me late one night when he started to demo the vanity in the room without me knowing he was going to do it. I could not be happier with how that powder room came out. We repurposed a sideboard that was my grandmother’s into a sink vanity.
After they left, I went about getting wash done and some other household chores when I heard smashing and cracking wood.
Lo and behold, when I went to find the source of the noise, I found Ed had made history of the vanity in the second floor bathroom! A new vanity I had ordered for an upcoming blog series with other bloggers, called Color Lovers was delivered on Friday. Ed took the fact that the new vanity had arrived as the starting whistle for the makeover.
How do you like the 1970’s chic patchwork wallpaper that was exposed when the mirror was removed? There is even some peach scallop wallpaper showing on the sides. The history of a room revealed. :-)
I will keep you updated on the progress. Stay tuned.
Enjoy your Monday.

I had that wallpaper in blue when I was in high school!!!
Diane Henkler says
Hi Vicky – I bet you smiled big time. :-) I remember patchwork was very popular in decor. The wallpaper in my room when I was growing up was 1-inch red, pink and glitter gold raindrops. It was busy! I still have a small piece. It takes me back every time I see it.

Wow, Ed, good job! I guess he knew what you wanted in that room? Husbands can be so handy! this place is going to be so awesome! …and then I guess you’ll start all over again! Take it easy, you guys!
Diane Henkler says
Hi Linda – He is my soulmate for sure. We were meant to be together. :-) At this point in my life, I am not sure we will redo it again unless we have to. I am doing it pretty neutral so I can change out the decorative accessories to give the room a different look from time to time.

Ed is out of control with those bathrooms!!!?
Diane Henkler says
Hi Laura – He is! :-) He likes to get things crossed off his to-do list so he has nothing on it. Then he doesn’t feel guilty when he goes to play golf.

Everything you are doing is wonderful. My task is decluttering our house after 22 years here. Too much stuff needs to go first before the reward of do overs.
You know you and Ed are an inspiration that stuff can look great with paint and good ideas with saving what’s already there. I love to follow what you do. You have such courage and determination.
Diane Henkler says
Hi Mary Ann – Declutter takes time, but once you get it done, it is a reward in itself, no makeover needed! I am still at it myself. We did quite a lot before moving, but now that we are settled, I can purge the stuff that we were unsure if we would need again. I am thrifty by nature and don’t need all the bells and whistles to be happy. I truly enjoy the creative process of finding new ways to use old things. I hope your purging task goes well and you soon get to enjoy the feeling of decluttered spaces all around you.

Boy, does that wallpaper ever bring back some old memories! I’m anxious to see the finished job! Knowing you two, I’m sure it will be wonderful!
In the meantime, I can dream about living on a lake like that! What a view! As much as I love DIY-ing, it would be very difficult for me to be inside remodeling with that lake and boat outside the door! Wonderful!
Diane Henkler says
Hi Tegmapat –
Thanks – You know the saying…”Everything that comes around, goes around.” I wonder if we will see this patchwork pattern come back in a new way?
On many days, it is very hard to stay focused with the lake right outside the doors. In the winter it is a little easier and the super hot days in August, but all the other times, I do struggle with work versus going outside. Outside usually wins, especially the last few weeks since it has be beautiful every day.

You Lucky Lady to have your very own Chip!!!!! The wallpaper is crazy!!!!
Can’t wait to see the end result!!
Rain rain go away!!!!!

Hi Nancy – I know I am lucky to have a hubby that doesn’t mind doing the demo work to make way for me to add the pretty. :-) I remember one of the neighbors having a similar pattern wallpaper in their kitchen when I was growing up in the 70’s. So funny to see it revealed. After such a lovely week, the rainy day is helping me to get focused back into work. Ed just told me it will be back in the 80’s by the end of week.
