Style Scouting: Vol. 163

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

Yesterday Ed and I went to spend the afternoon at an Oktoberfest celebration in a nearby town – Newberry. It is a small college town with lots of unique homes, both grand and small. There were a lot of people and the lines were long at the food trucks for all things German, including food like schnitzel with a chaser of funnel cake for Ed. I didn’t get anything, but a cup of hot tea since I don’t eat meat, oil and anything with sugar.

It was the perfect day, just strolling around the town, and weather wise – just beautiful. Overnight the temps are supposed to drop into the 40’s so it is going to really feel like fall. Brrrrh!!!! I am loving it. Cozy jamas were worn last night. :-)

I hope you are enjoying the weekend, now onto the links I found this week.

Posts You May Have Missed This Week:

Decorating

I like this entire home, but the foyer is my favorite – the wallpaper makes it all come together.

This kitchen would be a dream to spend time in daily – so many charming features.

This new home reveal.

If you like table skirts and don’t sew.

DIY

These are a pretty cute and clever Halloween idea using tea lights.

This candleholder makes the table setting.

I want to try making one of these to give as a gift.

Food

What to serve for dinner on Halloween night.

If you like pizza – these look pretty delicious and easy to make. No pizza dough needed.

This may not be Instagram/Pinterest perfect, but I bet it tastes better than any fancy looking cake you see in social media feeds.

Out & About

I am not sure I am ready for this. Seems a bit too personal.

Have you heard about the latest cardio workout? School kids with backpacks have been doing it every day for years. :-)

Gardening

Before you put your raised garden beds to bed until spring, do this.

Fashion & Beauty

How to wake up refreshed.

YAY!!!! For This!

Fun & Interesting

I fondly remember my dad doing this almost every morning before going to work.

If it works – wow. I think I would dislocate my shoulder if I tried this. (on TikTok)

Something to Think About

How these mini moments of gratitude can boost your mood.

“The one thing you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can. The moment that you feel that just possibly you are walking down the street naked…that’s the moment you may be starting to get it right.” – Neil Gaiman

  1. That new house you cited- that looks exactly like your house.
It looks beautiful- as does yours.

I do a gentle swing back and forth of an almost empty ketchup, mustard, whatever bottle. Works just as well. If any is leftover after that, I add a bit of water, then pour it into something I am making. Just my frugal mom, influencing me still. (:

  3. Barbara Pilcher says:

Thanks for another fun “ride,” Diane. I especially enjoyed that article about shoe polishing.

Hi Barbara – Happy to hear you enjoy the post. When I came across that shoe polishing post it brought back so many memories of helping my dad polish his shoes every morning. I smiled big time.

  4. Lovely post, Amazon One??? no..I did click on the article, so you are supposed to tote this around ? I just didn’t get it…otherwise the Halloween pot pie, that’s a recipe I want to try…..on Halloween or at least the weekend before…cute and yummy….and everything under Decor!! Have a wonderful week…

Hi Nancy – thanks. :-). The Amazon One uses your palm. You just have to place your palm over the device that will be in stores. Nothing to carry except your hand. It is kind of scary when you think about it, being able to identify you anywhere you go. Worse than what our phones and credit cards already use and know about us.

  5. I absolutely love that foyer!!!!!

Absolutely no on that Amazon palm reader. THAT is scary.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Ann – I agree about the palm reader. Very scary! And that foyer :-)

  6. I know some may feel differently but, thank you for reminding me I can enjoy these festivals without indulging in foods that I know make my body hurt later but instead just enjoy the activity of getting outdoors and community atmosphere.

Hi Laura – It has taken me a few years to get to the point when I go out to events like fairs and even dinner that I feel no urge to want or eat any of it. Like you mentioned, knowing how my body will feel later is all the strength I need to not indulge. I had to search for a food truck that had hot tea plain and did find one. It was just what I needed.
