Style Scouting: Vol. 240

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

Hello and happy Sunday from the shores of Lake Murray where the spring weather has been pretty much perfect. I have been enjoying open windows and balmy, off-the-lake breezes blowing through the house all week… bliss. :-)

I have intentionally filled my calendar with lots of white space to enjoy living in slow mode lately. I haven’t been a total slacker though, but have been taking my time getting a few projects done. One is almost finished and I will share that with you this week.

The other has me excited to begin DIY’ing. Right now I am sourcing supplies to get it done. It is for a very functional update in the kitchen. I have it visualed in my mind, now I have to make it come to life and share it with you.

Now onto the links I found to share with you this week.

Decorating

While on vacation last summer I passed a few of these homes when out riding my bike. Like this one. (open in same tab) If you look at any of the other homes in the portfolio, you will see the builder has a thing for very grand staircases.

Yep… everything that goes around, comes back around… This “dated” 1980s bedroom trend is officially back in a big way. I like it. (open in the same tab)

  • I am thinking about this comforter to put on my bed for the summer. I only wish that the sizes of comforters and duvet covers would catch up with the newer heights of mattresses. I have a King bed and there are not any larger sizes of comforters to buy to put on it to cover and hide the side of the mattress when it is on. Does anyone know of a brand/company that makes larger King size comforters/duvet covers? (open in same tab)

I got rid of my dust ruffles and don’t plan on ever using them again. Having kitties, all they were good for was attracting cat hair! It was a never ending chore to try to roller off the hair, and of course, washing them on a regular basis because of the kitty dirt. However, if you are in a pet free home, the last dust ruffle I bought I would highly recommend. Did you know you can buy one that just wraps around your box spring? You don’t have to take the entire bed apart to remove them. They have lots of stretch in them and work great. There are plenty to choose from on Amazon.

Excellent scouting, D! Thanks for all the inspo. Glad you’ve had perfect spring weather there. It has rained and rained and rained and rained and doesn’t seem there’s an end in sight. Need some sun for my lilacs to fully bloom. (Great hints on how to make them last a bit longer.) Have a fabulous week.

  3. I appreciate that many of your posts are not only interesting but also informative. Question for you or your readers: Does anyone know how you locate the area of origin of a product when ordering from Amazon. It is listed on some products but not all. Thanks for your help.

  4. As always, I find a few gems to pin for later in your post. Thanks!

PS That pricy blue bedside sconce, could you find a similar folding sconce and add a blue shade for a considerably smaller price?

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thanks PJ – Great idea on looking for a similar folding sconce and find or paint a shade blue. My search is on. :-)

  5. Love your Sunday posts. It is so true about bedding that doesn’t fit correctly with the larger mattress depths. I have heard, but haven’t tried it yet, that The Company Store has oversized king bedding. Worth a try at least.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Deb – Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me where I may find oversized King comforters. I just checked the Company Store and they do have oversize king bedding. :-). Now I have to find an oversize duvet cover with a print I like, or make my own.

  6. I saw the first Star Wars movie in the theatre back in the 70’s. Little did I know then that my birthday would one day be known as Star Wars day! Thank you for your weekly links, always such good stuff to explore.

Happy Birthday Holly. I hope you have an extra-special May the 4th. As always thanks for reading my blog.

  7. Rhonda Roark says:

This is an oversized comforter – lightweight – I have bought the oversized queen for Charleston, SC. I sleep under it year round. Unfortunately, there are no duvet covers, but I love the white. Washes and dries quickly.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Rhonda – Thank you so much for taking the time and providing me a link to an oversized comforter. I will check it out. I do have a solid white waffle duvet on my bed now, so I am fine with just white. If I want to add pattern and color someday I will most likely have to make my own duvet cover for it. Thanks for reading my blog.

  8. Regarding your comforter, give ChatGPT a try! After weeks of searching everywhere I could think of, ordering and returning at least half a dozen pairs, very expensive to cheap, I put my parameters into ChatGPT and voila! I was shocked! It not only found the perfect curtains, they were on sale on Amazon for $32 a panel! They are fully lined, cotton blend (not shiny), 96 inch velvet curtains in a beautiful blue. Try it! :)

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Cat – Thank you so much for telling me about using ChatGPT to find a comforter.:-) I am not in the habit of using it yet to find stuff. I just did a search and it was amazing with the suggestions. Thanks!
