Style Scouting: Vol. 264

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

I realized something on Thursday. I take my laptop computer for granted, big time!!!! In 16 years of blogging, I have encountered many glitches and storm related electrical power down issues, but none like I experienced on Friday when I was putting together this post.

For some reason that I am still not sure what it was, every link I clicked on when going to my favorite websites and links in my email, I got error messages saying that the sites I was trying to go to were not secure. But all were – they had https: in their URL that would show up in the search bar, but nothing else loaded – just white screens.

It was beyond frustrating. I spent most of Friday trying to get to the matter of the problem, even with the help of ATT – no internet issue, Apple – no computer settings were causing it and Google going through all sorts of diagnostics and remedies – nothing changed. It was a mystery.

Until Saturday morning when everything was back to normal. I was relieved that I could get this post written as it is made up with links. :-). My best guess as to what was going on is that the sites I was opening were all content sites and blogs. Perhaps there was some sort of ad network glitch that wasn’t reported. Did any of you have any problems with websites not opening for you on Friday?

Now onto all the links that I was finally able to compile into this post. Enjoy!

Fashion & Beauty

I have ordered a few pieces of fall clothing from Amazon the last few weeks, sadly after the items never were shipped, the orders were auto-canceled by Amazon. One was a jacket I was really excited to get. To replace it, I found this one, although a bit more structured from Walmart. I got it in Navy. (open in same tab)

  1. Hi,
I live on the West Coast, and we also recently had issues with the Internet (I couldn’t sleep, and as usual, I asked Amazon Echo to play music for me-but Alexa kept replying that the Internet wasn’t available)…The next morning, I saw the following article that explained everything:

    1. Hi Dorothea – Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me about the article you found about the Amazon problem. Amazon says it happened on Sunday into Monday, but I was seeing the problem on Friday so I think it started earlier than they stated. I am very happy it is back to normal now. Thanks for reading my blog and connecting with me. :-)

  2. Becky in 'Bama says:

Two things: I have watched Attorney Woo twice – one of my favorite series ever! Have encouraged multiple people to watch and no one has been disappointed. Some of the characters are beyond hilarious. Enjoy! Secondly: if you are using a Mac Book, do you ever ‘clear your browsing history’? This will get rid of any leftover websites that might be running in the background. My Mac is older and I have to do this about every two weeks to keep it from dragging down the browsing ability. Really love your blog!

    1. Hi Becky – So far I am enjoying every episode of Attorney Woo. I have been at my daughter, Mandy’s home in VA this past week so I haven’t been able to binge it like I was at home. Mandy and my SIL Matt had their first child on Monday – a boy. So now I have two grandsons and one granddaughter. I am enjoying spending the evening hours with him to let his parents get some rest. :-).

I do have a MacBook Pro and do clear the browsing history every few days to keep it running smoothly. Many people don’t know about doing this or forget about it. I also have to do the same thing for my blog (clear the cache) so it runs smoothly. Thanks for being a long time reader and connecting with me all these years. :-)

  3. I had odd issues Friday I was looking for bandages. Target’s site wouldn’t find anything. I went to it because google showed the lowest cost for that particular bandage. I wanted to confirm stock before heading out after work.

Also at home I have Att air and been getting intermittent no connection or bad connection on my husband’s game. I think its related to the support shifting to the new operating system for windows 11. More updates and patches are happening.

As I was typing this my internet related equipment remotely decided to re-start. Overall I’ve had to dump cache and/or restart things in a particular order to get things going properly again. It’s okay, it’ll encourage simplicity vs AI related systems in the long run.

    1. HiSewducky – My issues started on Friday too, so I think Amazon wasn’t reporting it then, but it must have gotten too big that they had to report problems on Monday. I am happy that it is running smoothly again. I agree with encouraging simplicity vs Ai related systems in the long run. It is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out over the next year or two.

  4. Two weeks ago I had the same problem with “unsecured” links. All were links I have used in the past numerous times.
My service is through AT&T also. Because it wasn’t imperative I use any of the links at that time I continued doing other things not related to the internet. The next day everything was back to normal and I never found out what caused it.

    1. Hi Deb – Thanks for taking the time to tell me about the problem you experienced with AT&T. I think that we are going to be seeing more online problems going forward as many internet providers move more into Ai systems. It will be interesting to see if Ai makes out lives better or worse. Only time will tell. :-)

  5. Shirley duke says:

I had the same problem as you on Friday, mine was weather apps which had white pages saying “ try again”. After hours of trying everything, the apps were working. I don’t know the cause. It’s very mysterious.

    1. Hi Shirley – Thanks for taking the time to tell me that you experienced the same link problems that I was last Friday. Amazon came out to say Sunday/Monday that it was their servers went down on Sunday night so I am not so sure it was what was happening to my internet since it was on Friday. I hope whatever was causing the issue, it is all fixed now.
