Style Scouting: Vol. 307

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. This is where we will share the random stuff that captured our attention or inspired us that we found online.

If you’ve ever found yourself trying to figure out how to dress a child for 55 degree weather in the morning and 85 degrees in the afternoon, while making breakfast and lunch simultaneously, and trying to remember if you even used shampoo in the shower this morning – well, you are officially surviving back-to-school season in September!

The transition from the delightfully lawless abyss of summer, where bedtime is merely a suggestion and sleeping until noon is the norm, to the rigors of the school schedule are a true shock to the system. Teachers are learning twenty-five new names, kids are mourning the loss of their precious screen time, and parents are seriously wondering if they just signed multiple permission slips for field trips or if they’re leasing a new car.

Yes, we are in the thick of it, my friends. Here in the second week of September we are all collectively surviving on about three hours of sleep, lukewarm coffee, and the hope that it all gets better soon.

This is exactly why our living spaces matter so much right now. We aren’t just chasing an ideal aesthetic found in a magazine, we’re creating our own fortress of solitude to protect us from the demands of the real world. Outside of our safe space, we’re expected to function like civilized, functional adults. So the least that our homes can do is provide an inviting, comforting, and relaxing space where we can just be ourselves. 

And if the description earlier sounds all too familiar, give yourself some grace – it will get better. For those who can’t quite relate, but know someone who can, give them a big hug and tell them it’s all going to be okay.
