Style Scouting: Vol. 308
Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. This is where we will share the random stuff that captured our attention or inspired us that we found online.

Autumn can be a great time of year to get out of the house. Sometimes that looks like chores around the yard that have been put off due to the hot summer weather, or others it’s just enjoying some down time with friends or family.
This past weekend we were able to enjoy one of the cooler days so far this year at a pickle festival. Yes, that’s right – a pickle festival! We really enjoy going to local festivals, especially when they feature local farms offering produce, crafts, and handmade goods.
There were lots of vendors – offering pickles of course – but also a variety of locally produced items such as sauces, dried teas and spices, and other canned foods. We got to taste a variety of pickles and enjoyed lunch from one of the local food trucks.
Speaking of pickles, I’ve been busy lately! I’ve been canning some vegetables from the garden and preparing to preserve some more. So far I’ve canned sweet and dill pickles as well as pickled jalapenos. Up next is salsa, followed by apple sauce, apple butter, and apple pie filling.
It’s a lot of work but I usually enjoy doing it – I can just get into a groove. It’s also so satisfying to have all the canned foods on my shelves that we can enjoy throughout the rest of the year. We really enjoy all of the foods we preserve, but apple pie filling is probably the family favorite. I actually freeze it instead of canning, and it works perfectly for those days in the middle of winter when I feel like making a pie or an apple crisp, but don’t want to peel and cut a bunch of fresh apples.
How about you? Do you enjoy canning or preserving – and what’s your favorite?
There’s still time to do something fun this weekend. But for now, enjoy this week’s version of Style Scouting.

- Ok, who has tried rechargeable lamps? I can think of several places where I’d like to have one. The table in our entry way, a soft light on the dining room table, or in the center of the bathroom vanity between 2 sinks. I think it could even work on the mantel in the family room or as accent light on a book shelf. (open in same tab)
