Welcome to this week’s Style Scouting, where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me.
We’ve lost an hour today which makes for a shorter day, but come dinnertime, I will smile when I am able to see the sun setting over the lake as I chop and prepare dinner. Bye-bye living in the dark.
It has been a little quiet on the blog this week.
After Ed and I went to visit to celebrate our younger daughter’s birthday and hang out with her sister, son-in-law and granddaughter, we both got sick.
I came home with the cold and now Ed has it. No fun, but not Coronavirus, just an awful head cold that won’t quit.
We were all about color coordinating all weekend long… from pink to teal.
What Has Inspired This Week…
You have! You are my inspiration for what I post on the blog. Thank you so much for all your comments and feedback about the video tour of my home that I posted last week. Seems it was a hit. Now that I know you liked it, I will be doing more going forward.
Many of you commented that you enjoyed hearing my voice. Last summer when Bona refinished the flooring in my kitchen and living room, they made a video. When I published the post, the video wasn’t ready. I updated the post a few weeks later. If you haven’t seen it, there is a short interview with me. You can see it midway through this post: Bona Flooring Interview With Me
Would you be able to live like this?
The best guide for how to choose the right white paint.
Want to personalize a pillow, tote and more? This post shows you how doable it can be. I will be making a few for spring, which is only 11 days away.
You may be running to the dollar store. Here’s a boxwood wreath for $3.
She is the master of creative repurposing.
Having one of these elevates even the simplest item. I use it on top of a cake plate on my kitchen counter.
Now that spring will be here shortly I am searching for a few cute casual short-sleeve tops to wear. I like wearing pink and blue shirts. The colors go well with my hair. This reminds me of a shirt I loved and wore all the time back in the 80’s.

Home Is Where You Make It Book
Now that I am feeling better, I hope to show you what we have been doing up in the guest rooms by the end of the week. The project was easier than I thought and both rooms look so much better.
I have learned over the years that if my grandchildren are sick, I have to stay away from them. It takes me a lot longer to get over being sick/cold now that I’m older. On a positive note, those are great photos of your beautiful family.
Hope you are feeling better Diane.

Sooo many books on style/decorating out there—good to find one that’s been vetted. I admire your style and see a lot that I would be happy living with. Your blog is very aspirational and DOABLE! Keep the ideas coming.

Would love that book!
I always find your posts inspiring. I feel like I would love to live on that man-made “island” but I wonder if I could do it for the long-term. I love the cloche, so many possibilities, and just found there is one left in my local Target; hopefully it will be there when I go. The little ones always seem to have head colds – I’m not sure there’s any way to avoid catching them! What a lovely family you have, Diane!
Great family photos!! Sorry everyone got sick ?
Thanks for the links of inspiration!! Can’t wait to see the guest rooms soon ?
Hey Diane , would love to win a copy of home is where you make it. How true! I recently sold my house and am now in an apartment. I’m enjoying it small but cozy. I love the farmhouse feel and am decorating with things that make me feel happy and cozy. Goes to show you don’t need a big house or a big bank account. Love your blog as I have been following you for quite awhile. We’re almost neighbors as I live down the way in Charleston.
Always love to see your posts and find it amazing that you still read more! I’d be grateful for the opportunity to read something that YOU found useful. Thanks for always sharing.
I would love to win your book Diane. I am always trying new things in my home of 42 years but never seem to hit it just right. It seems like something is always missing.
Keep posting. I love your style and the way you make it look so easy. Debbie
Hello! Please add my name to the list of those wishing to win the book. I am a fairly new follower of your blog and am enjoying what you have been sharing with your reader friends. Thanks so much for it all!
I’d love to win the book! I hope you and your family are all recovering from your colds.
I would love to win “Home Is Where You Make It”. I hope your family is feeling better.
I absolutely want a copy of your book! Great style never ages.
I feel your pain on the illness front. Got a bad cold the first of February…still not 100%! I just turned 60 and wonder if age is making this harder to get over. Always been so healthy, but this just wont let go. Not the worst cold of my life, but feels like the longest! Get well soon!
I would love to have a copy of the book. Like you, I live on a lake in a home that we’ve purchased as part of our downsizing for retirement. It has been a challenge to bring this 1960’s home to a point where we are comfortable. I’ve relied heavily on ideas found both in books and on blogs like yours to make this happen.
Hello! I would love to win a copy of the book! I recently found your blog and I am really loving it! Hope you are feeling better! Thank you and have a blessed day!!
I would love to win a copy of this book! And gotta say, with your skin tone and hair color, you look FABULOUS in that bright pink sweater!

This sounds like a great book! Hope you and Ed are feeling better soon.
Thanks for the opportunity to enter this giveaway. I enjoy your blog, the practical tips, things nearly anyone can accomplish. I don’t have your eye or talent, but I am learning from you that I have more ability than I ever gave myself credit for (and pardon me for ending with “for!)
Hi Alta – You made my day! I love what you said in your comment that you have learned from my blog that you have more ability than you ever gave yourself credit for. That is music to my ears and exactly why I write my blog. Thank you for taking the time to tell me that.
