Style Scouting: Vol. 100

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

Ocean and beach in front of the Hotel del Coronado

Happy weekend! Ed and I are returning today from a 10-day trip to the San Diego area where we spent quality time with our older daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter who is doing very well. :-)

Looking out at the Pacific ocean from La Jolla.

We had a wonderful time exploring San Diego, Coronado, Mission Beach and Bay, La Jolla and a few other places, plus lots of relaxing and reading on the beach.

We even had time to meet up a few of our friends from Ed’s Naval Academy days.

As all vacations go, it went by way too fast, but it will be nice to get home.

Whatever you are up to today, I hope it’s wonderful… enjoy this week’s links! X0

Decorating

Good tips for creating the best lighting for a room.

A chic waterside 6800 square foot home.

One very styling small cottage.

His style is always inspiring.

DIY

When you want your house to smell good this summer.

This file cabinet makeover.

Fashion & Beauty

Have you heard about or ever had an Italian manicure?

My favorite summer shirt in green that goes with shorts or a skirt.

Food

Looks like a delish recipe using fresh tomatoes from your garden.

I want to try making this with my sourdough discards. And also this bread made in a blender.

Have you ever made Mason jar ice cream?

Something to Think About

I enjoyed this post and thinking what I will be keeping.

Taking the time for the little things that are not so little.

YES to this!

One good reason to have an Apple Airtag.

Hi Pamela – As I told another reader, it was so nice to get to spend 10 days with Zoe. She is doing very well and getting so big. She is my little buddy. I hope you have a great weekend.

  3. I’m glad to hear your family is doing well! What a great place to enjoy with them. My son was stationed at the naval air station on north Coronado for 6 years and we used to visit him often. We still enjoy vacationing there, even though he has now moved on. As always, there are so many interesting finds in your style scouting post. I just put together a summer potpourri with some of my favorite fragrances – lime, lemon thyme, and mint. And I’m working on that inner voice in my head!

      Hi Linda –

The last time I was in Coronado was 39 years ago when Ed was a naval officer and his ship was there for a few months. I loved it then and it only is better now. We enjoyed our time there. We hope to go back next summer. Your potpourri mix sounds delightful. I have all these ingredients and am going to try the mix this afternoon. Enjoy your weekend.

  4. I’m so glad to read that your granddaughter is doing well and that you and Ed enjoyed your trip to SoCal and San Diego!

  5. So great to hear your granddaughter is doing well—& that you had such a lovely visit! Your photos are so fabulous! That Ontario home—what a dream!

  6. Hi Diane,
What is an Italian manicure? the link is in Italian, and I’m not fluent!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Susan – An Italian manicure uses gel polish and only uses the nail polish bottle brush in the center of the nail. Then a very detailed pointy brush is used to apply the polish to the rest of the nail. Doing this gives nails a longer look. Where a traditional manicure uses the brush from the nail polish to cover the entire nail in 3 strokes – center, left and right. If you watch the video on the website, you can see how it is done.

      1. Thank you Diane, I wasn’t able to open the video on my phone, but just did now on my desktop. Very nice!

  7. Thrilled to hear your precious granddaughter is doing so well. I rarely post but I read everyone of your Style Scouting posts. My favorite this week is the file cabinet makeover. How’s your garden doing? It’s been extremely hot and humid here in SE coastal Virginia and we really could use a good soaking rain. Apparently someone “danced” enough and we have had some heavy downpours the last couple of days and a slow soaking rain today.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Vikki – The garden is doing very well. This is our second year with the elevated beds and we have learned a lot. We have dry and then really wet weeks, but everything is growing. In the fall we are going to make an enclosure for the garden area using wood and hardware cloth. I got the idea from Patina Farms. I plan to use as many starts as possible and less seeds next year. Everything I bought as a started plant has done very well. The seeds not so well.

I hope the summer heat also provides the perfect amount of rain that allows your garden and all your flowers to be stay colorful and vibrant.

  8. so glad your granddaughter is doing well! And that you were able to get away and relax.

  9. So glad everyone is happy and healthy.
The ‘what am I keeping’ was a really wonderful article.
I think I have been doing ‘the italian manicure’ my entire life.
(It’s just leaving some nail unvarnished, right?)
