Style Scouting: Vol. 120

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

How is your Thanksgiving holiday weekend going so far? I hope you have been enjoying it with family and friends.

4 photos of Diane during Thanksgiving weekend.

Ed and I had a quiet, but enjoyable few days getting to hang out with our younger daughter, Mandy. We watched movies, had casual dinners at home, ate out one night, went to a Christmas concert and took a holiday river walk.

It was warm here in SC so kayaking was also on the agenda. Not for me though, I am one month post hip replacement and moving around well, but getting into a kayak may take a little more time. :-)

Today it is back to work for me. I am going to begin to get the house ready for a Christmas Home Tour on Thursday this week. I also will be sharing something my daughter made while she was staying with us the last four days. I loved what she made and think you will too – so stay tuned.

Posts You May Have Missed This Week

Decorating

The most festively decorated home exteriors of the season.

Such a charming house, both the exterior and also on the inside.

I like the cozy kitchen banquette area in this home.

DIY

A nice gift to make where you can use an old frame and leftover fabric you may have from a previous project.

Look what you can do with a wire coat hanger that dry cleaner clothes are hung on.

I am a big fan of using jingle bells in my Christmas decor and love this idea.

Food

These are clever & cute Christmas cookies using these cookie lettering stamps. I also like how the cookies are displayed in these cookie box ideas.

Have you ever done this… the rice trick?

To serve for dinner on a cozy night in.

Watching & Reading

On Netflix, I watched The Noel Diary and Falling for Christmas with my daughter Mandy. We enjoyed both. Planning to watch The Swimmers. Not a holiday movie, but it is based on a true story and looks good. Have you seen either?

Stacking up my Kindle with cozy Christmas titles – Snowed In For Christmas, Murder on the Christmas Express, and Let It Snow. Do you have any cozy holiday book suggestions? If so, please leave them in the comments. :-)

Fun & Interesting

What two things made red and green popular Christmas colors?

Answer: Holly and Coca-Cola. While the tradition of red and green holly dates back to Roman winter solstice celebrations, the Coca-Cola company also played a role. The soda makers popularized the plump and jolly red-suit-wearing Santa in an ad in 1931 that made using red and green at Christmas become a color scheme.

Something to Think About

The benefits of a naked table.

  1. I’m about half way through “Dreamland” by Nicholas Sparks and am really enjoying it. After that will be “Start with Hello” by Shannan Martin.

Diane, I want to thank you for posting books you are reading. I picked up The Midnight Library when you mentioned it and really enjoyed it, as did my neighbor and sister when I told them about it. Your sharing brightens my day :)

  3. Your scouting posts are always so interesting! And your gift ideas for men saved the day – I found great gifts for my husband and new son-in-law. Thank you!! I wish you and your family a blessed holiday.

    1. Thank you for the cookie stamp link. So cute and can be used for any celebration! I love to make cookies at Christmas but don’t need to eat them all. Those cookie box ideas are a great way to share the calories with friends, family, and neighbors.

Hi Patti – I bought the cookie stamp too. I never knew there was such a thing and am excited to try them out. Enjoy baking and giving your cookies to friends and family in cookie box style this year. :-)
