Style Scouting: Vol. 13

Happy Friday, my friends. How has your week been? Mine was a little stressful. Every day seems to bring a new uncertainty.

Ed and I had to make the hard decision to cancel a planned week-long vacation with my family in Ocean City, NJ.

It is hard not being able to see my siblings and going to the shore where we have so many fond memories. We are a close knit family, even though we live far apart. This is the second trip with them that had to be canceled.

New Jersey has a 14-day quarantine order in place for anyone coming from states were the numbers of cases and deaths are up. Sadly, South Carolina is on the list. :-( No going “down the shore” for us this year.

I am looking on the bright side though. It is the only thing to do through these uncertain times. Now I will focus on doing things around the house that I started, but haven’t finished… like cleaning out, editing and reorganizing my very messy craft room aka…studioffice. :-) It truly is a mess as I have been using it as my Zoom fitness room as well as my place to create.

Yesterday I finished a project that I am excited to show you. With no comings and goings over the weekend, I will be able to take photos of it and get the post written for next week. A little preview… it was made with something that has to do with wine.

Now on to a few positive things that inspired me this week…

I have been looking for these glasses for a long time to replace a few of mine that broke since I bought my first collection of them back in the early 1990’s.

I love bubble glass and these Tag brand glasses are very hard to find for less than $100 for a set.

I use the both the short and tall glasses for drinks, but use them even more as candle holders all through the year. I was excited to be able to find 4 before they sold out, and to find this knock-off set and also a resource to buy only one for half the price. Now I can build my collection back up

I have never seen this done. WOW! and it lasts!

If you love outdoor flowers, these DIY planters are classic and will go with any style home.

I love finding ways to use scraps from just about anything. Look what you can do with wood scraps to decorate your deck, porch or patio.

One more project that uses old wood to makeover a modern and simple entryway.

I am all about home offices and how they can help you become more productive. This one is light, bright and so pretty.

Since I can’t travel, I am taking time to enjoy the next best thing… online tours of charming towns I have never visited.

If this were my closet makeover, I would never want to close the door.

I am a big fan of these biker shorts for summer. I live in them with a longer style t-shirt. The best part – they have a pocket for my phone when I go out to get my 10,000 steps. When I get home, I spritz this on my face, neck and all over. It smells so good. It has become my summer fragrance.

Friday is always Pizza Night at my house. I am going to make a version of this tonight.

Do you have any weekend plans? Whatever you do, either staying happy at home or getting to go out and about… I hope it is a good one.

I love bubble glass too. I haven’t looked in a while, but they used to have reasonably priced bubble glass at Crate and Barrel too. Sorry you had to miss your family vacation!

  2. I’m so sorry about your trip. My family had a trip planned to Italy in May – my first ever trip to Europe. Needless to say we didn’t get to go. My daughter was supposed to work at Disney this Summer, but they closed. My happy thought is we are all doing our part to stay home and wait this out so maybe we can be back to normal NEXT summer. Hopefully I’ll see Italy in 2022!

Hello. Thank you so much for the pizza recipe. I made the dough and used your recipe for the sauce and it tasted great even thought I did not have all of the ingredients (herbs)!
I know how it feels not to see family due to the Covid-19. Hoping we will all get to see our families and friends…

  4. Sorry about your trip being cancelled, Diane. That is such a bummer. It seems like we are going to be at this for awhile, so, I guess it is a good time to keep at the projects! I am happy you are still sharing all of your blog posts with us! Be well!

  5. Just curious..if you were to go to NJ, how do they monitor people coming other states? If you have been quarantined at your home now, wouldn’t that count? We have family coming from NJ for two weeks in August, now Iam wondering about that.

  6. This was a great post. So many interesting stories.

I have 2 questions about your StudiOffice. What are those ginormous orange scissors used for? And, how the heck did your get that HUGE crafts closet into your house? It looks like there is barely a hairs thickness between the top of it and the ceiling. (Sorry, I notice weird things)

  7. Hi Diane, Hopefully our sacrifices will be rewarded with a quicker recovery for the country. I work in a hospital and I am avoiding EVERYONE after work, family and friends. Love the updates you have made to your home’s exterior. I would love to see a post showing the front of your home now that the landscaping has filled in.

  8. Oh, that pizza recipe Diane! I can just smell it. Lots of good links today. Thank you!

  9. I am sorry about you missing your trip. My daughter’s wedding was cancelled too in MA. Truly heartbroken. We’re going up (from FL) for a bridal shower soon, I want her to at least have something, they are getting married late Sept- no reception or festivities.

  10. Sorry about your family trip. I live in New Jersey and we cancelled our family trip to the beach and my son’s wedding was also cancelled. It is a stressful time for all but in the end I think most of us will have very clean houses, some will learn how to cook and others will have the best gardens they have ever had. Enjoy reading your blog. I learn so much.

Hi Dawn – Sorry to hear about your trip and especially your son’s wedding. All that planning. :-( I agree we are all going to have clean houses and come out of this period of time with Phd’s on everything we now have the time to learn. I just asked Ed to go through all the cocktail glasses we haven’t used in years. I didn’t think he would want to get rid of some of it, but he deep-dived into it and now I have an entire empty cabinet. :-) Thanks for reading my blog.

I’m really enjoying your blog Diane! I seem to have lots of time this summer for your DIY’s! I grew up in North Jersey and our summer shore place is Manasquan! not this summer for us either!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thanks Taffy – It is the smart thing to do – not go where there will be tons of people, but it is hard. I love the ocean and sea air. It is so refreshing and renewing at the same time. Enjoy creating projects this summer, if you ever have any questions about any of them, just email me.
