Style Scouting: Vol. 149

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

diane and carol celebrating 64
Me and my twin sister, Carol who is 5 minutes older than me.

As I mentioned last week my twin sister Carol came to visit me this past week. (Thanks for all the birthday wishes you left in the comment section last week. XO.

She had to fly back home yesterday. :-(. The week went by way too fast and I will miss hanging out with her, but we did enjoy spending our 64th b-day together. We went out to dinner to celebrate on Thursday, went to Charleston all day on Wednesday and just hung out on the water the rest of the time. I took a few photos and will post about that this week and more.

Now onto the inspiring links I found this week.

Decorating

This designer’s beautiful portfolio.

This before and after fireplace makeover.

A very nice before and after home remodel and also this little cottage.

DIY

A very classic way to hang photos and art in a room.

How to make a fine art print look like a painting.

How to create a textured surface with paint using caulk.

Food

Serving hot dogs on the 4th? Instead of using buns, try this idea.

Red, white and blue finger food for a 4th of July get-together.

I remember enjoying these every summer when I was a kid.

Out & About

I would love to create a journal like this someday…. so inspiring!

We went to see the new Indiana Jones movie. It may not win any awards, but we enjoyed it.

Outdoor & Gardening

A few tips for keeping flowers in window boxes thriving.

If your herbs are growing faster than you can use them, try doing this.

If I didn’t already have an outdoor console table, I would want this affordable one.

Fashion & Beauty

These stylish leather slide sandals are 40% off, plus another 15% when you use the code “Fourth”.

My sister brought this eyelash curler and I tried it out. It really works and keeps your eyelashes curled.

Fun & Interesting

When you go on vacation, have you heard about the coin in the freezer trick?

Creating a life you love into retirement.

Something to Think About

Things to stop wasting your time on.

“The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely.”  – Louisa May Alcott

Hi Ashley – Thanks for the bday wishes. My sister and I had a fun week together. I hope you and the family are enjoying the summer. :-)

  2. I really enjoyed looking through the before and after photos of the little blue cottage – so lovely!

I have a tub of the A-Ben-A-Qui cleanser and works really well.

Regarding the fireplace makeover photos – both are nice, but I actually like the before better! It’s nice there are so many different styles that suit so many different tastes!

Hi Margaret – I agree with you in that I like the fireplace before also.

  3. Good post this week. Hope you had a great week with your sister. I am taking my sister to a 7 day beach trip to Topsoil Island. I’m really looking forward to a change in pace and doing some fun activities.

Hi Nancy – My sister and I had a fun time together. I was sad when the week was up. I hope you have a nice time with your sister. I vacationed one summer in Topsail Island and really enjoyed it. It is a very nice place to get away. Enjoy!!!

  4. Diane, As usual your Sunday posts gave much so much information to think about in continuing our journey in retirement. Such excellent information!
Happy belated birthday to you and your twin!

  5. I always enjoy your style scouting posts, today I especially liked seeing you with your twin. My husband and his identical twin will be 64 later this month. They are also 5 minutes apart and my husband is the younger one too.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Elise – Living with your husband all through the years you know first hand all about twins. I am sure they tell the stories of what people always ask. Did you ever switch classes in school, boyfriends? These were two that we always were asked. We never thought we looked alike and could get away with pretending to be each other. Happy 64 to your husband and his twin. XO

  6. We also saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on opening day. We loved it.
I’m looking forward to hearing more about your vacation with your sister.

  7. Awesome to see you & your sister together!! I adore that little blue cottage, even before the reno.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Holly – I agree that little blue cottage was adorable even before getting a makeover. My youngest lives in a small house and I got a lot of ideas for her from that post.
