Style Scouting: Vol. 175

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

Now that we are entering the 3rd week of January, how is the new year going for you? I am back into my groove and energized, even though what I am doing while I write this post is sitting in one of the recliners in my living room with it swiveled toward the warm and cozy fire Ed made in the fireplace.

It’s what winter weekends were made for. Later on I plan on staying seated and reading under one of my faux fur blankets.

On winter days like we have been having, stormy, cold and windy – no snow, it is sure nice being able to get comfy in front of a fireplace. Do you have one in your home?

If not, have you ever put on the fireplace videos to watch on Netflix. There are 3 videos that look and sound like a real fireplace. My daughter, Mandy always has one of them on at her house.

Hope you are staying warm and cozy.

If you grew up in the 60’s, did you watch That Girl with Marlo Thomas on TV? I loved the show. So much so that it inspired me to go to college and live in NYC just like Marlo Thomas’ character, Ann in the show. Marlo Thomas now has her own collection of decorative items. I enjoyed this video of her showing it all off in her elegant penthouse in NYC. I love what she says at the end of the tour – “When decorating, if you like it, it works!”

I used to make this easy dessert all the time when entertaining. It was always a hit. I forgot all about it(recipe amnesia)until I came across this post about it.

To have for dinner this week. YUM!

Out & About

Ed and I went to see the movie, Wonka this week. We enjoyed it, but didn’t realize it was a musical before we went. Now I know why we didn’t know after reading this: Why are move studios disguising musicals?

Fashion & Beauty

This bright and cheery long sleeve top will liven up a dull winter day, plus it is 40% off.

I just bought a few new workout tees for $11.00 each. So many colors to choose from.

  1. Can’t wait to try the Rosemary and Parmesan Bread – sounds yummy!

Like you, I grew up eating Hydrox cookies.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Margaret – Another reader told me you can buy Hydrox cookies on Amazon. I checked and they do, but a few reviews of them said they did not taste like the ones they remember. It will just have to be a taste memory, but boy were they good. Enjoy the bread, it will be nice to serve if you are experiencing a chilly day this week.

  2. We love our Sonicare toothbrushes…used them for years. They have made a major difference in the health of our teeth!!

Staining the picture frame darker was super helpful. I happen to have a big frame that’s beautiful but an awful pinky stain. This link really helped me..thank you 💜

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Lynn – A few other readers told me what you said, yes using the Sonicare makes a difference. I ordered one and it should arrive today. I am eager to start using it. I have stained over stained pieces to change the color. It works very well and what makes it even better is that today there are so many colors of stain to choose from you can transform your frame to fit your style. Enjoy transforming your frame.

  3. Michele M. says:

Great scouting this week. I was so sad to read about the history of Hydrox cookies. I remember them. I usually baked our cookies growing up but we used to get them. I enjoyed seeing Marlo Thomas – I adored her growing up. I love you imitated her life and went to NYC! That is so cool. I felt the same way about Mary Tyler Moore, too. Danny Thomas was from Toledo (as were both my parents) and we were big fans of both he and his daughter.
She still looks amazing. What a gal!

Stay warm. It is soooooooooooooo cold out!!!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Michele – I like Mary Tyler Moore also, but love Rhoda Morgenstern even more. When I want to relax at night sometimes, Roku TV has That Girl in is line up. It is fun to watch and see her clothes and the antics she and Donald Hollinger get into. :-) Danny Thomas and Marlo have done a lot of good in the world.

  4. Barbara Pilcher says:

Diane — You can buy Hydrox cookies on Amazon.

I am definitely going to be baking that quick bread!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Barbara – I checked out the the cookies on Amazon. There are a few mixed reviews. Most agree they are good, but don’t have quite the same taste. Once reviewer went into detail that it didn’t have the crispness and aftertaste that she remembered. Fun that they still are made though – for $33 for a 6 pack. :-)

  5. I agree with the others about the Phillips Sonicare toothbrush. I have been using one for years. It’s worth the price, and I think you will love it.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thanks for taking the time to tell me about the Sonicare. I ordered one and am waiting for it to arrive on my doorstep. I am looking forward to using it.

  6. Paige Holbrooks says:

I agree the toothbrush is a gamechanger. HSN has a better price than Amazon. As of today it’s $189. but a $50. rebate brings it down to $139. Definitely give it a try.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Paige – Thanks for telling me about the toothbrushes and the deal on HSN. That had me going down a rabbit hole of all things Sonicare toothbrushes. I had not idea there were so many at different price points. I am still waiting for it to arrive and am eager to try it out.

  7. My brother and I grew up eating Hydrox and I often wondered why I couldn’t find them. Thank you!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

hi Joy – My siblings and I really liked them, there were 4 of us and when my mom would bring home a package from the grocery store, they were gone pretty fast. I remember by the time I was a teen, they were getting harder to find. :-(.

  8. Absolutely yes on the Philips Sonicare toothbrush. Game changer for my teeth and gums. Be sure to get one with a case for traveling.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

hi Lynn – Thanks for taking the time to tell me about the Sonicare and the tip about getting a travel case for it. That will be a must.

      1. Probably wouldn’t still have teeth if not for Sonicare! In addition, Proxabrush devices are great; my dentist got me going on them and they have really helped with gum health.

        1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Jackie – I am glad you still have teeth. :-). I ordered a Sonicare and am waiting for it to arrive on my doorstep. I remember my day using the Proxabrush or something very similar. I will check them out as I want to keep my mouth and gums healthy. Thanks for telling me about them.
