Style Scouting: Vol. 222

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. My Sunday post where I share the random stuff that captured my attention or inspired me that I found online.

If you read my last few posts about not having heat on the main floor of the house and starting the process of having the ceilings repaired and the removable of the popcorn, not much has changed since these postings.

The HVAC company is scheduled to come out again tomorrow morning. Keeping my fingers crossed that they can finally figure out what the problem is and get it fixed.

As for the ceilings, the guest room where the tree crashed through the roof is all done and Ed and I are beginning to get the room back to normal. I may have to remove the wallpaper I recently put up on one wall (open in same tab) in the room or come up with a creative solution since the ceiling is now about 4 inches higher than it was. I will keep you posted on that.

In the kitchen and living room, the contractor’s ran into a glitch last week. After the popcorn was removed, straight lines of cracks appeared and if they skim coat the ceiling as they planned, these cracks would eventually come through. So starting tomorrow, they will be putting up new sheetrock on the ceiling.

It is going to be a busy “fix it day” at my house tomorrow. I hope your week gets off on a good start.

Now onto the links I found for you this week:

  1. Loved this post, even though I’m reading it the day after Christmas resting with a cold. Thanks for your fun blog!

  2. I’m sorry to hear that you are running into so many problems in repairing your home. I have two sisters who are in the same situation. Thinking of you with love and prayers. Your decorations were beautiful while you were able to display them. Have you have a Merry Christmas.

Thanks Nancy – Looks like we are going to have to get a new heat pump. It is in the works so at least we are going in the right direction. I hope your sisters get theirs fixed soon. I was able to keep the tree up since the ceiling sheetrockers are going to do the living room after the holidays. Once the construction is all done I will be in super clean-up and organizing mode – perfect for January blog content. :-). I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy the season.

  3. Diane, I’m so sorry that you’ve had such damage to your home! Hoping that it will be solidified enough for you to enjoy Christmas.

That said, I wish you and your family the merriest of Christmases!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thanks Caye – :-). We need to get a new heat pump and it is ordered and in the works. Hoping it stays warm until we get it. Thankfully the second floor heat pump works and is keeping the first floor from getting too cold. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and holiday season.

  4. Love those door knob trees! Merry Christmas!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Alison – I love when I see clever ideas like the door knob trees. So creative and easy to do. Wishing you, Steve and your family a very Merry Christmas – enjoy. I look forward to seeing you in January to catch up. I found the book you recommended on Amazon for 1.99. Now I don’t have to wait for 17 weeks for Libby to read it. XO.

  5. Some great links today, as always! The one about what to do if your phone is stolen is so frightening, but enlightening. Good luck with the continuing house repairs.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Deanna – I will be very happy when the house is back to normal mode with no more construction going on. Progress is happening – I just finished putting the last coat of paint on the crown molding in the guest room where the tree came through. Tomorrow Ed and I will put the furniture back in and can get that room crossed off the list. :-). Come January I am pretty sure I will have plenty of cleaning and organizing posts to share as I get my house back in order.

  6. Hope all the housework repairs go smoothly so you can enjoy a lovely Xmas.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thank you Holly. The work is taking time, but once it is all done, the rooms will look so much better so the disruption will be worth it. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and holiday season.

  7. I do not put decorations on our tree anymore and I love it! Last year we bought a pre-lit tree for the first time. It is so beautiful and peaceful just “plain” that I have no desire to decorated it. We have a minimalist/scandi vibe to our home and it just fits. I do sometimes get nostalgic for all our homemade ornaments. Our children are all adults now and most of our ornaments were made during their childhoods. But, not enough to mess with the peaceful feeling our undecorated tree gives.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Amy – Ditto everything you mentioned in your comment about loving just lights on the Christmas tree with no ornaments. It is so peaceful and beautiful. I gave my girls many of the favorite ornaments and kept my favorite. My daughter Mandy kidded with me that putting no ornaments on the tree was just like in the children’s Christmas book, Noel. If you have never read it, it is a cute story about the ornaments on a Christmas tree. There is also a video that is narrated by Charleston Heston. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and holiday.
