Style Scouting: Vol. 305
Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Style Scouting. This is where we will share the random stuff that captured our attention or inspired us that we found online.

It’s hard to believe the end of August is already here. The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind, and in the rush to get our first post out, we realized we forgot a proper introduction. I’m Holly, and along with my husband, Chad, I am so excited for the opportunity to continue what Diane started here at In My Own Style.
While I’ll be the primary voice for the blog, Chad will be working behind the scenes to handle the day-to-day site operations. You’ll also see him posting occasionally and getting hands-on with the DIY projects we tackle.
We’ve been married for over 20 years and have two amazing teenagers who keep us on our toes! A few years ago, we moved into a new home along the Shenandoah River in Virginia. We’re currently building a bit of a tiny homestead on our land, sharing the space with two dogs (a German Shepherd and a Weimaraner) and a mix of farm animals – including Kunekune pigs, honeybees, chickens, and one duck named Caramel.

Building our home during the Covid era was a challenge, but it allowed us to work closely with our builder to specify every detail, which reignited our passion for home design. As an elementary school teacher, I’ve learned how to get creative with crafts and stay frugal with decor while keeping things warm and welcoming. Chad brings his own experience from a past career running a paint store, and he currently keeps busy with his own web development company.
We look forward to bringing our own style to the site and sharing our favorite DIY projects, recipes, fashion ideas, and more!

You are living my dream right down to Virginia, the German shepherd and the duck! I wish you the very best and I look forward following you. I loved the Diane’s blogs and I thank you for keeping it going. I will support your efforts in whatever way I can. God bless you!
We really do appreciate the support. It means a lot, thanks so much Josee!
Although I’ll miss Diane (she always seemed like a friend) I’m glad that she’s off to her new adventure. She’ll be missed. BUT, I’m excited that you’re carrying on and I enjoyed your post today immensely. Lots of great items to think about and, maybe, buy. BTW, love your little pig. So cute. Looking forward to your future posts.
Thanks so much for the support Linda. We really appreciate it ♥
I agree, way too many popups.
Hi Susan,
We understand the ads can be distracting and even frustrating. It is tricky to find the right balance between giving readers the best experience we can and still having to earn revenue somehow. But we’ll continue to try to find the best solution and will explore any alternatives we can. Thanks for being here :)
Welcome & thank you for introducing yourself and your husband!! Wishing you the very best success!
Hi, I’ve edited your post based on your request – but the suggested is noted and we really appreciate you taking the time to comment. It is tough to balance and we’ll continue to try to make improvements so the site is as enjoyable as possible.
I enjoyed the article Benefits of Talking to Yourself Out Loud. I had no idea it was a big enough subject to warrant articles and studies. I have been talking to myself out loud for…hmmm…well as long as I can remember. When my family & friends tease me with “You do know you’re talking to yourself, right?” I always respond with a big smile & “Yes. Yes I do. Some days I am the most interesting and intelligent person I talk to. You should try it.” That response always gets a return smile and a positive nodding of the head in agreement. I have a creative personality, and I have been in sales my entire career. Success in both arenas requires setting the scene & working through undertakings. Talking out loud puts those actions in real time. Please be good to yourself and try it. Perhaps you, too, will find it truly is a game changer!
I love that response! Glad you enjoyed the article Dana :)
