Tour of the HGTV Dream Home 2016
Two weeks ago I had the exciting opportunity to tour the HGTV Dream Home 2016.
All the paint in this year’s dream house is from Glidden! I am super excited about this since I know first hand that the High Endurance line of paint offers great results at a reasonable price.
Even though it was a rainy day when I toured the house, I especially was intrigued to see it in person since I just moved into a new house and am looking for decorating ideas. I found many.
This year’s Dream Home will mark the event’s 20th anniversary. The waterfront property is located on Merritt Island, Florida which is right near Cape Canaveral. It is also a first for HGTV since it is not a newly built house, but an existing house that was redesigned and updated. The house sits along the banks of the Indian River Lagoon with Intercoastal Waterway access.
The light and bright three bedroom, 3 1/2 bath house is decorated by designer Brian Patrick Flynn who went with a casual Floridian coastal style. When you walk in the front door you step into a open concept space with a soaring ceiling.
Wall and ceiling paint color: Quiet Rain
The designer told us that he used Glidden High Endurance paint bought at Walmart in every room. Notice throughout the tour that the color on the walls is also on the ceiling in each room. All the white paint used in the home is Swan White.
The furnishings and lighting throughout the house are from Ethan Allen.
The kitchen color scheme is a mix of white and black from the tile on the wall to the white wall cabinets and then grounded with black base cabinets. The faucet is from Delta. The color is Champagne Bronze.
Wall and ceiling paint color: Kentucky Blue
The media room was decorated with a delightful infusion of color and textures. All the art in the house was custom made specifically for the house.
Wall and ceiling paint color: Opal Silk Green
The mudroom goes out to the 3-car garage. The lamps are made of stacked shells.
Wall and ceiling paint color: Terra Cotta
Bedroom Suite #2 can be seen from the main living area.
Even the walk-in closet is painted using the same color. The trim painted in Swan White is what makes the wall color pop.
Multi-toned turquoise blue penny tile was used in the bath.
Wall and ceiling paint color: Bastille Blue
Bedroom suite #3 has a door that overlooks the water and backyard pool.
It was my favorite bedroom.
I like the casual mix of the furnishings.
Every bedroom had its own full bathroom.
The string art of the marlin was custom made just for this bathroom. Perfect for a waterfront home.
Laundry Room wall and ceiling paint color: Island Shores
Pool Bathroom wall and ceiling paint color: Island Shores
Wall and ceiling paint color: Thai Teal
The second floor of the home is where the master suite is. It has a bedroom…
…a seating area…
…bathroom and…
…large glass enclosed shower.
When you step onto the porch off the room…
…you are greeted with this view.
The exterior is white with an accent of light blue. It is very subtle, can you see it? The walls are White, the trim and railings are painted using the color, Blue Light.
Even the winner of this home’s dog will have a dream house of his own.
The subtle use of the color blue to accent the exterior brings out the architectural details in the exterior.
The backyard and pool area of the home are perfect for entertaining or just relaxing and enjoying the water view.
One of my favorite aspects of the exterior is this outdoor shower. Something about taking a shower under the sun, moon, and open sky is so appealing to me. I am using this as my inspiration to build a similar one at my new home.
