Tour of the HGTV Dream Home 2016

Two weeks ago I had the exciting opportunity to tour the HGTV Dream Home 2016.

All the paint in this year’s dream house is from Glidden!  I am super excited about this since I know first hand that the High Endurance line of paint offers great results at a reasonable price.

Even though it was a rainy day when I toured the house, I especially was intrigued to see it in person since I just moved into a new house and am looking for decorating ideas. I found many.

This year’s Dream Home will mark the event’s 20th anniversary. The waterfront property is located on Merritt Island, Florida which is right near Cape Canaveral. It is also a first for HGTV since it is not a newly built house, but an existing house that was redesigned and updated. The house sits along the banks of the Indian River Lagoon with Intercoastal Waterway access.

The light and bright three bedroom, 3 1/2 bath house is decorated by designer Brian Patrick Flynn who went with a casual Floridian coastal style. When you walk in the front door you step into a open concept space with a soaring ceiling.

The designer told us that he used Glidden High Endurance paint bought at Walmart in every room. Notice throughout the tour that the color on the walls is also on the ceiling in each room.  All the white paint used in the home is Swan White.

The kitchen color scheme is a mix of white and black from the tile on the wall to the white wall cabinets and then grounded with black base cabinets. The faucet is from Delta. The color is Champagne Bronze.

Bedroom Suite #2 can be seen from the main living area.

Even the walk-in closet is painted using the same color.  The trim painted in Swan White is what makes the wall color pop.

I like the casual mix of the furnishings.

Every bedroom had its own full bathroom.

Even the winner of this home’s dog will have a dream house of his own.

The subtle use of the color blue to accent the exterior brings out the architectural details in the exterior.

The backyard and pool area of the home are perfect for entertaining or just relaxing and enjoying the water view.

One of my favorite aspects of the exterior is this outdoor shower.  Something about taking a shower under the sun, moon, and open sky is so appealing to me.  I am using this as my inspiration to build a similar one at my new home.

Hi Bethany – The windows/doors are all from Jeld-Wen. They are either custom clad-wood or custom fiberglass doors. The supplier for the house is Mansion Supply in Florida. They may be able to help you find out the exact model number and type of door. Their website is: or call 407-951-8636

  9. I love the colours and flow of the house. I don’t think the furniture looks cheap but was surprised that the rug under the dining table was so small! Love the ironing board cover, the TV in master bedroom disappears with the framed artwork and the media room is just FUN!! Good job HGTV! BTW, Bedroom #3 was my fav as well!

    1. I wish Ethan Allen was “cheap”.

  20. i love the area where this house is and we visit often. The river is fantastic. And you should certainly put in an outdoor shower, we have had them in the 3 houses we’ve owned.

  21. Michele H says:

Thanks for sharing! I especially love the color Thai Teal…..oh and the Island Shores…..and the Terra Cotta. Heck, I love all the colors. The Kentucky Blue is so soothing.

Congratulations also on your new home. I am envious of your dock and gazebo :) I hope you are healing up well. I know you mentioned hurting your hand and arm. And shingles! Ugh, the pain. Take Care.

    Aloha, Michele from HI.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thanks Michele – My right hand and arm are where the Shingles showed up, so that is why I couldn’t use them. They are getting better and I am able to do more with my arm and hand each day. Ugh is right. Having Shingles is the worst pain I have ever experienced. I will be getting the shot as soon as I am old enough. :-) Happy holidays!
